Requirements

  • At least three years of aviation or airline experience.
  • Detailed understanding of aviation safety standards and safe operating practices, FARs, SkyWest Operations Specifications (Ops Specs), and SkyWest Safety Programs.
  • Highly proficient with the entire Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficient email internet skills.
  • Strong business acumen and knowledge of airline industry and internal workgroups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to simultaneously manage multiple projects and effectively manage time.
  • Demonstrated attention to detail.
  • Ability to travel up to 50% during certain months of the year for industry meetings and events.
  • Ability to sit and work at a computer for extended periods.
  • Ability to travel when required.

Responsibilities

  • Development, operation, and continuous improvement of the SkyWest SMS to ensure compliance with 14 CFR Part 5 and AC120-92 (current version).
  • Manage the SMS processes within the Safety department and monitor the Company SMS.
  • Oversight of the Corporate Technical Publications and Standards division of the Safety Department.
  • Oversight of the Internal Evaluation division of the Safety Department.
  • Oversight of the Safety Assurance division of the Safety Department.
  • Support charter operations SMS and IEP processes.
  • Overseeing the SMS database.
  • Ensuring all SMS, Corporate Technical Publications and Standards (CTPS), Internal Evaluation Program (IEP), and Safety Assurance policies, procedures, and processes (to include training programs) are implemented and performing as required.
  • Supervising the Manager Corporate Technical Publications and Standards, Manager Internal Evaluation Program, Lead Manager Safety Assurance, and the Coordinator SMS.
  • Ensuring focus audits are conducted as requested/required.
  • Ensuring program level evaluations are completed as scheduled.
  • Ensuring external evaluations [e.g., Department of Defense (DOD), IATA Operational Safety Audit (IOSA), partner] are coordinated through the Safety Department.
  • Representing SkyWest Airlines at industry SMS conferences and other events to gather and share best practices.
  • Maintaining the SMS database.
  • Ensuring safety promotion throughout SkyWest Airlines.
  • Developing and facilitating SMS training courses.
  • Maintaining oversight of the development, implementation, and revisions for SMS-related manuals, forms, training materials, and other department communication.
  • Maintaining SMS competencies and training.
  • Utilizing SMS in daily job tasks.
  • Acting as liaison with regulatory authorities, original equipment manufacturers, and other operationally relevant external entities for SMS-related matters.
  • Providing SMS and IEP support for charter operations.
