About The Position

Capital One is a rapidly growing organization focused on its customers, driven by technology and innovation. The Technology & Data Risk Management (TDRM) organization, comprising approximately 200 professionals, oversees about 14,000 developers, setting high standards for cybersecurity, reliability, tech risk, and data management. The Chief Tech Risk Officer (CTRO) and TDRM are independent, ensuring that business leaders have the necessary tech and data risk information for informed decision-making. Associates in TDRM are highly skilled professionals in information security, cybersecurity, site reliability engineering, technology, data analysis, data science, and risk management, known for their expertise and ability to deliver impactful results. The Senior Manager for data policy will be instrumental in developing and managing the organization’s data risk management policies, ensuring alignment with best practices, measurable requirements, and effective data risk management. This role involves collaborating with stakeholders across the organization, including first and second lines of defense such as Technology, Cyber, Enterprise Data, Divisional Data Risk Officers, and Operational Risk Management, to provide guidance on policy adherence and manage policy portfolios.

Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree or military experience
• At least 7 years of experience in the fields of information security, data management, technology, or risk management
• At least 5 years of experience developing or managing policy
• Strong foundation in data risk management and policy development
• Keen judgment along with strategic and tactical leadership skills
• Excellent communicator, particularly written communication (memos & slide decks)
• Extreme attention to detail, sense of accountability, and ability to follow through on time-sensitive deliverables to own their full portfolio of work

Nice To Haves

• 3+ years of process or project management or related experience leading cross functional projects and programs
• 3+ years of experience in a second-line or oversight role at a financial institution or regulatory agency
• Risk certifications or PMP certification
• Deep understanding of the Data Management Body of Knowledge (DMBOK) framework
• Professional data management certifications, such as a CIPP (Certified Information Privacy Professional), CIPM (Certified Information Privacy Manager), or CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional)

• Engage stakeholders across the organization to ensure policies align with best practices.
• Ensure policies have measurable and achievable requirements.
• Ensure policies reflect how the organization manages data risk.
• Apply knowledge of data risk and policy governance to manage policies.
• Provide guidance on policy adherence.
• Partner closely with associates and executives within the first and second lines of defense.
• Manage stakeholder engagements and build relationships across all levels of the organization and across lines of defense.
• Set direction, manage expectations, and indirectly lead cross-functional teams.
