Senior Manager, Risk and Compliance

IRENVancouver, BC
CA$170,000 - CA$210,000

About The Position

IREN is a leading AI Cloud Service Provider, delivering large-scale GPU clusters for AI training and inference. IREN’s vertically integrated platform is underpinned by its expansive portfolio of grid-connected land and data centers in renewable-rich regions across the U.S. and Canada. With 100% renewable energy, we build, own and operate our data centers and take pride in being at the forefront of sustainable solutions for the ever-evolving applications of high-performance compute. We believe that human progress is invaluable, but it should be done in the right way – responsibly, sustainably and having a positive impact on the communities we operate in. This role sits within the Risk & Compliance function and reports to the Director of Risk. As a NASDAQ-listed business operating across Australia, the US, Canada and Europe, IREN’s contractual and regulatory obligations have grown rapidly in number, complexity and consequence. This role is responsible for developing and managing the enterprise-wide contractual and regulatory compliance frameworks needed to keep pace with that growth, ensuring obligations (whether arising from material commercial agreements or from regulatory requirements) are identified, owned, tracked and met across the group. This is a hands-on senior role. We expect the work to be performed leveraging modern tooling and AI. The role covers both regulatory and contractual compliance, and the successful candidate must be capable across both. In practice, day-to-day work is likely to lean toward regulatory matters across employment law, immigration, payroll, and privacy, with close engagement with the People and Culture team.

Requirements

  • 10+ years’ experience in risk, compliance, governance, audit, legal or commercial roles, with substantive ownership of both large and complex contractual environments and multi-jurisdiction regulatory compliance.
  • Proven experience working with complex commercial agreements and interpreting contractual/legal obligations, including supplier, customer and financing / debt agreements.
  • Deep working knowledge of regulatory frameworks, ideally across at least two of: Australia, the US, Canada and Europe with strong expertise in employment law, immigration, payroll compliance and privacy.
  • Demonstrated ability to build frameworks, registers, governance models and processes from the ground up.
  • Experience within large, complex environments such as data centres, banking, infrastructure, energy, or technology.
  • Experience working closely with the People and Culture or HR functions, with an understanding of the compliance obligations for employment, workforce management and immigration.
  • Genuine fluency with technology and AI as tools for solving compliance problems at scale, with concrete examples of replacing manual work with better-designed solutions.
  • A commercially pragmatic mindset, with the ability to balance risk and business outcomes.
  • Ability to work with a high degree of autonomy, mobilise action and deliver outcomes in complex environments.

Responsibilities

  • Be accountable for IREN’s regulatory compliance framework, structured around three pillars: inform, comply and assure. Provide strategic oversight over obligations management, uplift compliance capability and influence across the business and continuously evolve the framework to keep pace with IREN’s growth.
  • Inform – maintain the register of regulatory obligations applying to IREN across its operating jurisdictions; monitor regulatory change; ensure obligation owners are aware of the obligations and changes that may impact their business units or activities.
  • Comply – partner with business leaders to ensure controls are designed, implemented and operated effectively to meet compliance obligations across the group; identify instances of non-compliance and drive remediation; own incident and breach management end-to-end, including implementation, reporting, root cause analysis and remediation tracking.
  • Assure – lead risk-based assurance activities, including periodic internal and external reviews, to assess the effectiveness of controls; identify control design gaps and drive them to closure; coordinate periodic compliance confirmations by the Executive Leadership Team; provide assurance to the Executive and Board that regulatory obligations are being met across the group.
  • Establish and implement a contract obligations management framework across the organisation, ensuring consistent governance of contractual commitments, including the underlying registers for material supplier, customer, and financing agreements.
  • Translate contractual terms into clear operational requirements, ownership responsibilities, and compliance checkpoints across business units.
  • Act as the primary point of support for obligation owners across the business, including providing clear documentation, practical interpretation guidance, and the tools and reporting they need to deliver on their commitments with confidence.
  • Monitor and track contractual obligations across executed agreements, ensuring ongoing compliance and visibility of key commitments.
  • Identify, assess, and escalate contractual risks, issues, and potential breaches in accordance with governance and risk frameworks.
  • Provide oversight and reporting on contractual compliance, including key obligations, performance outcomes, and risk exposure.
  • Prepare and deliver regular reporting to the Board’s Audit and Risk Committee on contractual and regulatory compliance.
  • Partner with internal stakeholders across the business (People and Culture, Legal, Commercial, Finance, Operations, Construction and the Executive team) and engage external consultants and specialist advisors where needed to bring the right expertise across jurisdictions.
  • Implement and embed the governance and accountability structures that underpin both frameworks, ensuring they operate effectively at multi-jurisdictional scale.
  • Stand up the technology and AI tooling that make obligations management scalable.
