About The Position

MASS MoCA is entering an exciting period of growth and opportunity as the museum advances the vision outlined in its Strategic Plan and continues to expand the role of its campus as a hub for artists, cultural organizations, creative businesses, and community partners. The Senior Manager, Real Estate plays a central role in activating and supporting MASS MoCA’s leasing campus. This position blends tenant and property management, program coordination and activations, and project management in support of creative placemaking goals to ensure public spaces, retail tenants, and campus partners are meaningfully integrated into the broader MASS MoCA and North Adams community. The position requires someone who is comfortable working across these domains, ensuring that campus spaces, tenants, and initiatives operate cohesively while supporting MASS MoCA’s broader strategic goals. Working closely with the Director of Public Initiatives & Real Estate, this role will focus on developing activations and partnerships that animate leasing campus spaces, supporting tenant success, and managing projects that strengthen our leasing campus as a vibrant cultural and community destination. As a member of the management team, this role will collaborate regularly with colleagues across MASS MoCA, including Communications + Content, Visitor Experience, Buildings & Grounds, Public Programs, and other departments, to ensure campus initiatives align with the museum’s broader programming, operations, and community engagement efforts. The ideal candidate is an organized and collaborative professional with experience in project management, real estate or property management, or community engagement, and public-facing initiatives. The Senior Manager should be comfortable managing multiple types of projects simultaneously, with an ability to build strong relationships with internal teams, tenants, community partners, and external stakeholders.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in project management, real estate or property management, community engagement, or a related field.
  • Minimum of 3 years managerial experience preferred.
  • The role ensures consistent implementation and enforcement of institutional policies, procedures, and operational standards, and acts in the interest of the employer when addressing personnel, compliance, and performance issues
  • Demonstrated experience managing complex projects, including coordinating timelines, budgets, and multiple stakeholders.
  • Strong written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with experience preparing reports, presentations, and project documentation.
  • Experience working with tenants, real estate professionals, community partners, government entities, or other external stakeholders.
  • Strong organizational and administrative skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and documentation.
  • Ability to build and maintain effective working relationships with internal teams, tenants, community partners, and external stakeholders.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining attention to detail and meeting deadlines.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a primary point of contact for campus tenants, supporting communication and coordination related to their campus experience.
  • Manage communications with tenants regarding operational matters including maintenance requests, improvement projects, campus events, and other needs.
  • Oversee tenant relationship management and maintain clear communication with both current and prospective tenants.
  • Support drafting and maintenance of lease agreements, amendments, and related documentation while maintaining accurate records of lease documents and tenant-related materials, including but not limited to tracking lease terms, renewal dates, notices, and other documentation related to tenant agreements.
  • Ensure all MASS MoCA real estate assets are well-maintained, maximally utilized, and provide an elevated user experience.
  • Provide strategic oversight of tenant signage and wayfinding, ensuring alignment across internal teams and maintaining clear, current visual guidance for tenants and visitors.
  • Manages and directs the day-to-day work and performance of the Coordinator position, exercising independent judgment and authority in personnel and operational matters. This position is responsible for effectively making decisions regarding hiring, promotion, discipline, discharge, performance evaluation, scheduling, workload assignments, mentoring, and corrective action. The role ensures consistent implementation and enforcement of institutional policies, procedures, and operational standards, and acts in the interest of the employer when addressing personnel, compliance, and performance issues.
  • Coordinate with the Director of Public Initiatives & Real Estate, Facilities, and Buildings & Grounds regarding maintenance, refurbishment, or improvement projects connected to leasing spaces and other real estate assets.
  • Schedule, organize, and execute public space activations including pop-ups, community events, and joint promotions.
  • Manage calendars for leasing campus, including coordinating activations and events with public-facing tenants and internal MASS MoCA teams.
  • Track leasing campus programming and activation costs, negotiate vendor contracts, and maximize ROI on activations.
  • Maintain performance metrics of all leasing campus activations, including tenant feedback, to enable data-based strategic refinements.
  • Work with relevant stakeholders to promote leasing campus events and highlight partner programming and activities.
  • Manage project timelines, budgets, and deliverables for initiatives related to leasing campus development and other departmental priorities.
  • Coordinate with internal teams, consultants, and external stakeholders to maintain project momentum and ensure deadlines are met.
  • Conduct feasibility assessments and assist in evaluating opportunities connected to leasing campus development and placemaking initiatives.
  • Support coordination of strategic initiatives connected to MASS MoCA’s Real Estate and Public Initiatives work.
  • Working closely with the Director of Public Initiatives & Real Estate, cultivate and maintain relationships with North Adams residents, business owners, community partners, and other stakeholders connected to leasing campus initiatives.
  • Under the direction of the Director of Public Initiatives & Real Estate, represent MASS MoCA in meetings with community partners, local organizations, and city officials related to campus initiatives.
  • Support engagement with community partners through meetings, presentations, and collaborative initiatives connected to leasing campus development.
  • Facilitate coordination between MASS MoCA departments, campus tenants, and external partners.
  • Oversee and guide administrative and organizational workflows, including documentation, reporting, scheduling, and materials development, ensuring effective execution by the Coordinator and alignment with project goals.
  • Track and manage project costs and coordinate with relevant departments regarding budget documentation.
  • Regularly update commercial leasing website with accurate information regarding available properties, campus offerings, and tenant activities.
  • Maintain and update records of accurate floor plans for leasing campus real estate assets.
  • Ensure available commercial properties are regularly listed for lease and incoming lease inquiries are responded to in a professional and timely manner.
