About The Position

McGraw Hill, a leading provider of digital and print educational resources, is seeking a Senior Manager, Program Management to lead complex, cross-functional programs within the Higher Education Business Unit. This role involves partnering with Product, Engineering, and business leadership to align priorities, manage risk, and ensure predictable delivery of strategic initiatives. The Senior Program Manager will act as a player-coach, leading critical programs while also managing and developing other Program Managers and improving delivery practices. This position is responsible for serving as a trusted advisor to sponsors and senior leaders, bringing structure and accountability to large-scale initiatives. This is a remote position open to applicants authorized to work for any employer within the United States.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience leading complex, cross-functional software or digital programs, with a proven track record of delivering enterprise or portfolio-level initiatives with measurable business impact and increasing scope of accountability.
  • 3+ years of formal people leadership experience, including hiring, coaching, performance management, and developing Program or Project Managers to raise capability and consistency across the function.
  • Strong executive presence and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to influence senior leaders, facilitate high-stakes decision-making, and communicate effectively across all organizational levels.
  • Experience improving delivery systems, governance practices, or PMO capabilities, with advanced systems thinking and comfort operating in highly matrixed, complex organizational environments.
  • Ability to balance strategic planning with hands-on execution leadership, maintaining both a big-picture perspective and the operational focus needed to drive delivery outcomes.
  • Excellent collaboration and communication skills, paired with a growth mindset and a consistent focus on continuous improvement across teams, processes, and delivery practices.

Nice To Haves

  • PMP, PgMP, PMI-ACP, or related certifications, along with experience scaling PMO or portfolio governance functions to support organizational growth and delivery maturity.
  • EdTech or digital learning platform experience, with familiarity with tools such as Jira, Confluence, Smartsheet, and Slack to support planning, coordination, and cross-team visibility.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end delivery of highly complex, multi-team or multi-product programs, driving alignment across concurrent initiatives by coordinating priorities, dependencies, capacity planning, and sequencing to ensure business impact and delivery predictability.
  • Establish and evolve program governance, planning frameworks, and operating rhythms that improve delivery consistency, and guide adoption of a cohesive program management operating model across all initiatives.
  • Provide executive-level reporting, delivery forecasts, and decision support, surfacing risks and tradeoffs early to enable informed, timely decision-making by senior leadership.
  • Identify systemic delivery challenges and implement improvements to processes, planning practices, and ways of working, setting standards for forecasting, dependency management, and risk practices across the function.
  • Partner closely with Product and Engineering leaders to align roadmaps with capacity and execution strategy, navigating complex stakeholder dynamics and cross-functional tradeoffs effectively.
  • Lead change management and operational readiness activities for major launches and transitions, ensuring teams and stakeholders are prepared and aligned throughout the process.
  • Manage, mentor, and develop Program Managers, raising capability and consistency across the function while coaching teams and leaders through complex delivery challenges.
  • Support hiring, onboarding, performance management, and career development within the Program Management team, building long-term organizational capability and a high-performing delivery culture.
