Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree Electrical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering emphasis preferred preferred.
  • 5 years of related experience.
  • 5 years supervisory experience or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated experience managing a team responsible for electric utility system engineering, operations, maintenance, and construction practices.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of planning and /or distribution engineering.
  • Demonstrated effective leadership skills.
  • Demonstrated financial skills such as budgeting and basic accounting.
  • Demonstrated effective interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to use computer software programs (e.g., e‐mail, word processing, spreadsheet, and project management).
  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative and inclusive work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of electric, natural gas or steam operating practices, construction standards, work methods, equipment, maintenance practices, regulatory compliance and materials preferred.
  • Demonstrated experience working with labor union management preferred.
  • Knowledge of safety rules and applicable electric codes and DOT regulations preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and understand utility maps, plan and profiles, and drawings preferred.

  • Directs or supports engineering and projects related to transmission, distribution, generation, substation, system protection, and related technical services to operational business units.
  • Develops leadership, strategies, and plans for providing engineering and technical support on complex transmission, distribution, generation, substation, and system protection projects.
  • Interfaces with multiple departments across the company such as operations, real estate, safety, environmental, legal, and financial and business performance to ensure that performance activities align with business unit financial and operating objectives.
  • Directs teams to develop plans and projects aligned with the company investment strategy to the satisfaction of internal business unit leadership.
  • Strives for continuous improvement in processes, standards, and templates.
  • Maintains thorough knowledge of the theory and application of business planning processes, including identifying industry trends and directions, developing and implementing engineering programs, participating in research and development (R&D) efforts and professional, industry organizations, e.g., Electric Power Research Institute (EPRI) and Edison Electric Institute (EEI), and looks for strategies to satisfy customer's present and future needs.
  • Provides direction and oversight for leadership between field operating personnel, customer representatives, and general office departments to ensure alignment with strategic plan.
  • Provides leadership and input into the development and update of the engineering and operations strategic plan.
  • Identifies a vision that informs on new projects and establishes priorities consistent with the strategic plan.
  • Engages in other duties as needed that support Alliant Energy’s Values and helps deliver on our Purpose to serve customers and build stronger communities.
