About The Position

Lead a High-Impact Software Team in Cutting-Edge Defense Technology! Do you want to lead a team of highly motivated engineers developing platform software for cutting-edge communications systems? We are seeking an individual to lead an additional platform software team in our growing organization. As a platform software engineering leader, you will collaborate with our software and systems teams to create next-generation military communication capabilities. You will be responsible for leading your team and coordinating with peers involved in the development of middleware software for embedded platforms. Your contributions will be crucial from the pursuit phase through to the release and maintenance of software tools, including managing costs and schedules for the activities your team supports.

Requirements

  • Typically requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 10 years prior relevant experience or an Advanced Degree in a related field and minimum 7 years of experience
  • Active and transferable U.S. government issued security clearance is required prior to start date. U.S. citizenship is required, as only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance
  • Experience leading engineering teams, including mentoring, and task delegation
  • Experience with bidding, project planning, earned value management, and risk and opportunity management
  • Knowledge with Embedded software development

  • Experienced with embedded software development for communication systems.
  • Experience with Agile development concepts

  • Lead and Develop a High-Performing Engineering Team: Manage and mentor a team of engineers, from entry level to seasoned professionals. This includes hiring, staffing allocation, and fostering a culture of growth and collaboration.
  • Grow Talent and Foster Job Satisfaction: Support team members in their professional development goals and career aspirations at Collins Aerospace. Provide constructive performance feedback regularly and collaborate with employees on growth areas.
  • Collaborate Across Functions: Engage with engineers, engineering leadership, program managers, and shared service organizations to ensure seamless integration of embedded software solutions. Foster strong networking relationships to support project success.
  • Champion Product Line Strategy and Development Best Practices: Drive the creation of software solutions that not only exceed our customer expectations but support product line solutions. Promote software development best practices throughout the software development life cycle.
  • Support Pursuit and Bidding Activities: Participate actively in pursuit activities, including bidding for new programs. Contribute technical expertise and strategic insights to strengthen proposals and secure new business opportunities.
  • Optimize Staffing and Program Management: Manage staffing levels across multiple programs to ensure alignment with project schedules and resource requirements. Utilize earned value management techniques to monitor and enhance program performance and profitability.
  • Ensure Compliance and Process Adherence: Uphold Collins' standards and procedures, ensuring all engineering activities comply with regulatory requirements and industry best practices. Drive continuous improvement initiatives to streamline processes and enhance operational effectiveness.
