About The Position

Jupiter Power is an energy infrastructure company focused on the development, construction, and operation of battery energy storage assets in wholesale electricity markets. Backed by BlackRock’s Diversified Infrastructure business, Jupiter Power has a strategic and established portfolio of nearly 1,400 MW / 2,800 MWh in operations or under construction in the U.S., with a leading pipeline of over 12,000 MW in active development. We are seeking a Senior Manager, Performance Engineering to join our Asset Management team. In this role, you will be responsible for key programs to improve Jupiter asset performance including battery balancing, capacity testing, performance analytics, degradation modelling and strategic asset planning. This role will also act as a technical resource to the ROC, origination, market operations and asset management teams on asset health and performance. This role will be based out of our Austin, Chicago or Houston offices and is subject to our Company’s return-to-office policy which currently requires a minimum of three days a week in the office.

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Engineering (Electrical, Mechanical, Power Systems or equivalent) or minimum 3 years of technical experience in energy storage technologies.
Strong technical understanding of utility-scale Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS) including PCS (Power Conversion System), batteries (cell/module/enclosure), EMS (Energy Management System), SCADA/telemetry systems.
Minimum 5 years of relevant experience in asset management, technical operations or asset performance analytics of utility-scale energy infrastructure.
Direct experience engaging with major OEMs (battery pack suppliers, inverter/PCS vendors, EMS/controls vendors)
Proven ability in translating technical performance issues into commercial and economic outcomes
Familiarity with Python and SQL as data analytics tools and willingness to learn to use these tools for performance analytics in cloud Databricks environment
Demonstrated leadership and influence: ability to lead vendor meetings, influence internal teams, manage multiple priorities, and drive projects to closure
Excellent communication skills: able to clearly present technical findings and commercial implications to senior leadership and non-technical stakeholders.
Strong bias for action, hands-on attitude, high attention to detail, and ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment
Self-motivated, entrepreneurial mindset, comfortable building frameworks, processes and knowledge base where they may not yet exist or are in formative stages.
Willingness to travel to operational sites (as required, e.g., 10-30%) and engage with field O&M teams and vendors onsite when needed.

Responsibilities

Lead fleet-wide capacity testing and reporting according to offtake and OEM requirements
Lead engagement with BESS OEMs for operational sites, including escalations and resolution of repeat technical issues
Build site-specific forward-looking degradation and availability model to enable proactive asset planning
Improve on and run battery balancing program, maximizing useable capacity and capacity test outcomes for merchant and contracted fleet
Design additional testing as needed to identify battery issues and track asset health as needed, in collaboration with O&M team and 3rd party vendors
Improve organizational visibility and understanding of asset performance and health through dashboards, reporting and developing relationships with key stakeholders
Work closely with ROC and field O&M teams on identifying technical issue escalations as well as proposing technical resolutions
Act as a technical resource for origination, market operations and asset management teams on BESS performance and operations
Build and maintain a repository of OEM documentation for key equipment, including an internal knowledge base on key equipment characteristics and OEM-recommended operating procedures and commercial terms
Additional assigned projects to improve asset performance
