About The Position

The Senior Manager, Operations Training & Development is responsible for leading the governance, implementation, and continuous improvement of learning, leadership development, and workforce capability initiatives across the manufacturing network (17 Manufacturing Plants), ensuring alignment with enterprise talent, learning, and business strategies. This role serves as the central point of leadership for operations training and organizational capability development, partnering closely with Operations, enterprise Organizational Development, and plant leadership teams to build a highly capable hourly & salary workforce and strong leadership pipeline. The position leads the design, deployment, and continuous improvement of operations training systems, leadership development programs, onboarding experiences, skills progression frameworks, and workforce development initiatives that support operational excellence and long-term business objectives. Through strategic partnership and cross-functional collaboration, the Senior Manager ensures consistent training standards across manufacturing locations, strengthens organizational capability, accelerates leadership readiness, and fosters a culture of continuous learning that supports safety, quality, productivity, engagement, and talent sustainability. By translating enterprise talent and learning strategies into practical solutions for manufacturing operations, this role helps ensure workforce development investments drive measurable business results and support the long-term success of the manufacturing network.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Business, Operations Management, Engineering, Human Resources, Organizational Development, Education, or related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant work experience to successfully perform the essential functions of the position.
  • 8+ years of progressive experience in manufacturing, operations, learning and development, workforce development, or organizational development.
  • 5+ years of leadership experience within a manufacturing or operations environment.
  • Domestic travel up to 30–40% may be required to support manufacturing facilities, leadership development programs, and enterprise initiatives.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s degree in Organizational Development, Human Resources, Business Administration, Education, Engineering, or related field.
  • Multi-site manufacturing experience, to include Unionized facilities.
  • Experience supporting workforce development within a continuous improvement, Lean Manufacturing, or operational excellence environment.
  • Certifications in learning and development, leadership coaching, instructional design, organizational development, Lean, Six Sigma, or related disciplines.
  • Experience developing frontline leaders and manufacturing leadership pipelines.

Responsibilities

  • Aligns manufacturing learning and development initiatives with enterprise talent, learning, and business strategies to support organizational goals and workforce capability needs.
  • Implement standardized training frameworks, governance processes, and performance measures across the manufacturing network to drive consistency and effectiveness.
  • Ensures learning and development programs support operational excellence, workforce readiness, leadership development, and long-term organizational growth.
  • Assesses organizational capability needs and translates enterprise learning priorities into scalable solutions that address skill, leadership, and workforce development gaps.
  • Partners with Human Resources and Operations leaders to identify emerging capability requirements and support future workforce readiness.
  • Provides leadership and oversight for the Operations Academy and manufacturing leadership development programs.
  • Designs and deploys development pathways for Plant Managers, Assistant Plant Managers, Production Managers, Supervisors, and emerging leaders.
  • Partners with Operations leadership to strengthen leadership capabilities in business acumen, operational excellence, financial management, strategic thinking, and people leadership.
  • Ensures leadership development initiatives align with enterprise talent strategies while addressing the unique needs of manufacturing operations.
  • Measures program effectiveness through participant development, leadership readiness, organizational outcomes, and business impact.
  • Provides oversight of all plant training activities across the manufacturing network, including onboarding, technical training, workforce certification, skills progression, compliance-related training coordination, and ongoing capability development.
  • Establishes standards and processes that support operational excellence, continuous improvement, and world-class manufacturing practices.
  • Monitors plant training execution and follow-through to ensure training activities are completed consistently, documented appropriately, and aligned with business, safety, quality, and operational requirements.
  • Partners with plant leadership teams to identify workforce capability needs and develop targeted development plans to address critical skill gaps.
  • Ensures training content, learning resources, and development programs remain current, effective, and aligned with changing business requirements.
  • Promotes consistency in workforce development practices while supporting the unique operational needs of individual facilities.
  • Provides leadership, coaching, oversight, and support to Plant Training Managers and training teams throughout the manufacturing network to ensure effective planning, execution, and sustainment of plant training activities.
  • Facilitates collaboration, knowledge sharing, and best-practice adoption across plant training organizations.
  • Build strong partnerships with Operations, Human Resources, Engineering, Quality, EHS, and plant leadership teams to strengthen workforce capability and organizational effectiveness.
  • Serves as the primary manufacturing learning and development liaison, helping connect enterprise talent initiatives with operational workforce development needs.
  • Supports the development of a high-performing training network focused on measurable business impact and employee growth.
  • Supports workforce and leadership development strategies that strengthen organizational capability, succession readiness, and bench strength across manufacturing operations.
  • Partners with Human Resources to implement talent management, succession planning, and employee development initiatives within the manufacturing network.
  • Supports leadership pipeline development, internal talent mobility, and workforce retention efforts through targeted development programs.
  • Creates development experiences that strengthen employee engagement, career progression, and long-term organizational effectiveness.
  • Helps build sustainable pathways for developing future manufacturing leaders and critical talent.
  • Establishes and monitors performance metrics, reporting processes, and dashboards to evaluate training effectiveness and organizational impact.
  • Reviews plant training activity, completion data, and capability metrics to identify gaps, prioritize support, and drive accountability for training effectiveness across all facilities.
  • Measures learning outcomes through workforce performance, operational results, employee development progress, and business performance indicators.
  • Conducts assessments and reviews of training systems to promote consistency, effectiveness, and continuous improvement across manufacturing locations.
  • Leverages technology, learning innovations, and industry best practices to enhance training delivery, accessibility, and learner engagement.
  • Uses data and insights to identify opportunities to improve workforce capability and maximize the return on development investments.
