About The Position

Mayo Clinic Laboratories (MCL) Operations is a benchmark for excellence in the reference laboratory industry, serving as the functional link for MCL's strategy execution in competitive markets. Key operational areas include turn-around-time, customer service, global logistic network and transportation management, specimen accessioning and distribution, specimen collection capabilities, and management of remote on-site specimen processors and field-based service representatives. The Senior Manager–Operations-MCL collaborates with the Director-Operations-MCL on planning, budget, FTE, capital, and performance metrics for operational support of MCL business units. This role is responsible for operational excellence and execution of operational plans for assigned staff and processes within MCL Operations, aligning with business and department objectives. The position is a key member of the leadership team, focusing on policy and system planning and implementation, project management, financial analysis, problem-solving, and team collaboration. Responsibilities include regulating staffing based on workload fluctuations, supporting department/division and institutional projects, staff recruitment, policy implementation, and serving as a primary resource for issues and communications. The role requires independent performance and judgment in handling management issues. Domestic and/or international travel is required.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Attend and present at client meetings (on-site or remote, planned or short notice).
  • Maintain communication with field, sales, and support teams.
  • Resolve client and field team concerns; drive market-based improvements.
  • Manage courier/carrier performance via regular reviews.
  • Address service issues, implement enhancements, and oversee onboarding.
  • Track vendor KPIs and ensure accountability.
  • Collaborate on vendor contracts and conduct monthly cost reviews.
  • Oversee invoicing, quotes, and vendor billing discrepancies.
  • Monitor cost trends.
  • Support IT system upgrades and new initiatives (e.g., tracking tools, drones).
  • Direct staffing, KPIs, and productivity standards.
  • Lead Kaizen improvements and train Operations Service Managers and leading strategic goals of logistics.
  • Oversee Command Center activities.
