About The Position

Messer is seeking a Senior Manager of Maintenance & Reliability for the Northeast region. This role supports the Area Production Director in achieving key outcomes in safety, reliability, efficiency, cost, and customer service. The position leads the Area Reliability and Maintenance team, fostering a culture of safety and ensuring compliance with all safety, health, environmental, and quality standards. The manager will lead a team of multi-discipline engineers providing technical, troubleshooting, and maintenance support for all machinery, mechanical equipment, electrical, controls, and instrumentation within various plant types in the area. This role is crucial for driving continuous improvement through HPO, EMBRACE, and Six Sigma programs, ensuring the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plants and equipment. Key responsibilities include incident investigation, Management of Change (MOC) compliance, leading troubleshooting and repair of critical equipment, planning and executing maintenance work, championing new maintenance work processes, owning Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) programs, and ensuring critical spare parts are managed effectively. The role also involves identifying, budgeting, planning, and executing turnaround maintenance activities, improvement projects, and major projects, while representing area reliability interests in the proposal and project commercialization process. Collaboration with the Remote Operations Center (ROC) is also a key aspect of this position.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering Discipline – Mechanical or Electrical
  • Minimum 15 years of experience in operational and engineering environment

  • Proven experience and knowledge of predictive maintenance methodologies and technologies
  • Proven understanding of regulatory and industry standards and codes
  • Experience with CMMS systems required

Responsibilities

  • Supports the Area Production Director in achieving key outcomes in safety, reliability, efficiency, cost, and customer service.
  • Leads the Area Reliability and Maintenance team by establishing a culture of safety in working and in the execution of all aspects of the team’s role requirements.
  • Ensures compliance with all safety, health, environmental and quality standards within the area.
  • Leads a team of multi-discipline engineers that provide technical, troubleshooting and maintenance support for all machinery, mechanical equipment, electrical, controls and instrumentation within all ASU, CO2, H2, and He plants in the area.
  • Supports the effort for continuous improvement through EMBRACE and Six Sigma programs.
  • Ensures the safe, reliable, and efficient operation of all plants and plant equipment within the area by assuring all incidents are properly investigated, required reports are issued, and corrective actions are completed on time.
  • Ensures that any and all modifications to existing assets strictly follow the Management of Change Process (MOC), comply with internal and external regulatory codes, standards, and best practices, as well as provide technical review and approval of all changes within area.
  • Leads the troubleshooting and repair process of any critical failed equipment, including MOC guidance, plant/equipment outage decision making, repair plan, and root cause analysis.
  • Leads the planning, scheduling, and execution of short, medium and longer-term maintenance work within the region including preventive maintenance, repair maintenance, turnaround, and plant improvement projects.
  • Champions new maintenance work processes and collaboratively drives continuous improvement in their effectiveness and efficiency through a comprehensive set of performance KPIs.
  • Owns the Preventative Maintenance (PM) and Condition Based Monitoring (CBM) programs within the area and ensures proper execution, effectiveness, compliance, review, and appropriate follow-up actions of any found deficiencies.
  • Ensures that agreed maintenance strategies are fully implemented at all sites.
  • Leads the plant equipment assessment process and annual reviews for all sites within area.
  • Ensures that critical spare parts for all sites within the area are identified in the CMMS, stocked in appropriate warehouses with accurate inventory data, are in a condition for immediate use and are replenished in a timely manner once consumed.
  • Identifies, defines, estimates, budgets, develops, plans and executes turnaround maintenance activities, improvement, and major projects within the area.
  • Is accountable for the development, routine review, and ensuring compliance of the repair and maintenance budget for all sites within the area.
  • Represents the area reliability interests with the Messer Projects Execution Team in the proposal and project commercialization process, including scope, spares input, and new plant acceptance and commissioning.
  • Works with the Remote Operations Center (ROC) to execute projects and initiatives identified to drive performance and close performance gaps.
