About The Position

CIBC Leveraged Finance is a team of professionals and support staff with expertise in senior and subordinated cash-flow lending to Canadian middle-market businesses across diversified industries. The team has a three-pronged mandate: i) providing national coverage of private equity sponsors; ii) leading financing of highly-structured, event-based transactions; and iii) providing ongoing support to our existing client base. Our focus is on providing our clients creative financing solutions, value-added ideas and industry leading quality service, by delivering the full suite of CIBC’s product offerings to clients. As a Senior Manager, Leveraged Finance you will prepare and lead in presentations of financing proposals to clients and prospective clients. For accepted credit proposals; prepare credit memos, lead negotiations, review legal documents and lead the closing of transactions. You will also serve as the primary relationship manager on a portfolio of existing borrowing clients where you will be their first point of contact at CIBC, giving you the opportunity to build relationships with the management teams and owners. This position will be located in the Vancouver office, primarily covering a portfolio of clients and evaluating new opportunities within Western Canada while also interacting with the wider team members in the Toronto and Montreal offices. Requirements

  • BBA or similar undergraduate degree.
  • At least 5 years of experience in a commercial credit and/or equity investment environment.
  • Experience with lending principles, procedures and practices, credit assessment and structuring and industry and competitive analysis.
  • Strong financial modeling, research and negotiation skills, including experience negotiating security documentation and terms with clients and internal stakeholders.
  • Strong presentation skills.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and have experience assembling proposals and making recommendations to present financial information to clients.
  • Strong communicator and team contributor with experience working together with a team to meet client needs.
  • Strong organization skills with the ability to balance competing priorities, meet tight deadlines and demonstrate attention to detail.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare and lead presentations of financing proposals to clients and prospective clients.
  • Prepare credit memos, lead negotiations, review legal documents and lead the closing of transactions for accepted credit proposals.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager on a portfolio of existing borrowing clients, acting as their first point of contact at CIBC.
  • Build relationships with management teams and owners of borrowing clients.
  • Lead discussions with Private Equity Sponsors and client management to assess financing needs and deliver specialized lending solutions including acquisition financing, mezzanine financing, and enterprise value-based lending.
  • Apply understanding of capital structure to provide value-added financing advice to clients.
  • Take a lead role in Western Canada private equity sponsor relationships and proactively develop new coverage opportunities within Western Canada.
  • Develop strong relationships with internal teams, external clients and general industry contacts to generate new referrals and business opportunities.
  • Perform comprehensive financial/non-financial analysis and risk assessment of companies.
  • Prepare financing proposals, structuring terms and conditions including security, covenants and pricing, to properly reflect and compensate CIBC for assessed risk.
  • Prepare recommendations on credit opportunities to senior management.
  • Prepare and negotiate security documentation for transactions.
  • Negotiate the terms and conditions with both clients and internal CIBC stakeholders.
  • Serve as the primary relationship manager for a portfolio of existing borrowing clients.
  • Monitor account performance and industry trends.
  • Maintain a proactive approach to continuous risk assessment.
  • Partner with and support the direct team in Vancouver, Toronto and Montreal.
  • Provide coaching and mentoring to junior members of the team.
  • Partner with the wider CIBC team to connect clients with opportunities and solutions throughout the bank.
