About The Position

WSP is seeking a Sr. Manager, IT/OT Solution Architecture & Grid Modernization to join their Power & Energy Advanced Complimentary Services (ACS) team. This role can be based in Houston, TX or remote. The position involves leading the development, solutioning, and delivery of digital utility and critical infrastructure programs within the energy sector. It is a senior leadership position that integrates enterprise solution architecture, principal technical leadership, business development, and industry thought leadership. The Sr. Manager will act as the lead architect and trusted advisor for utility clients engaged in digital transformation, grid modernization, and operational technology modernization. The role provides technical leadership for programs encompassing EMS, ADMS, DERMS, OMS, SCADA, GIS, AMI, Advanced Applications, Data Centers, Cloud Platforms, Enterprise Systems, and IT/OT convergence solutions across Generation, Transmission, and Distribution environments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or related discipline.
  • 10+ years of experience in utility consulting, utility operations, digital transformation, systems integration, or solution architecture.
  • 10+ years leading large-scale EMS, ADMS, DERMS, SCADA, OMS, or grid modernization programs.
  • Demonstrated experience serving as Chief Architect, Lead Architect, Principal Consultant, or Technical Lead.
  • Strong understanding of utility operations across Generation, Transmission, and Distribution.
  • Experience leading client-facing engagements and managing executive stakeholders.
  • Occasional travel may be required depending on project-specific requirements.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Travel up to 30% for client engagements, project delivery activities, business development efforts, and industry conferences.
  • The selected candidate must be authorized to work in the United States.

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in Engineering, Information Systems, Computer Science, Power Systems, or Business Administration.
  • Professional Engineer (PE), PMP, TOGAF, CISSP, ISA/IEC 62443, AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud certifications.
  • Experience with NERC CIP compliance, Zero Trust architectures, cloud modernization, and operational cybersecurity.
  • Experience with utility data platforms, AI/ML applications, and advanced analytics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead enterprise architecture and solution design for utility transformation programs.
  • Develop technology roadmaps, target-state architectures, integration strategies, and implementation plans.
  • Conduct architecture reviews, technology assessments, and modernization studies.
  • Define scalable, resilient, secure, and future-ready IT/OT solutions.
  • Serve as Principal Technical Lead for strategic utility projects.
  • Provide technical oversight from planning through commissioning and operational readiness.
  • Lead multidisciplinary teams of engineers, architects, consultants, and vendors.
  • Resolve complex technical, operational, and integration challenges.
  • Lead initiatives involving EMS, ADMS, DERMS, OMS, SCADA, GIS, AMI, Advanced Applications, Data Platforms, and Utility Data Centers.
  • Support grid modernization, decarbonization, resiliency, electrification, and DER integration programs.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies including AI, advanced analytics, VPPs, and Grid Edge solutions.
  • Define enterprise integration architectures across operational and enterprise systems.
  • Guide interoperability strategies involving IEC 61850, DNP3, ICCP, OPC-UA, MQTT, CIM, APIs, and middleware platforms.
  • Develop data architecture, cloud architecture, and cybersecurity strategies.
  • Support planning and implementation initiatives across generation, transmission, and distribution organizations.
  • Advise clients on technology investments, modernization strategies, and operational improvements.
  • Provide leadership on control centers, renewable integration, transmission operations, and distribution automation.
  • Support account growth, opportunity identification, proposal development, and capture planning.
  • Lead technical solutioning during pursuits and client presentations.
  • Build executive-level relationships with utilities, ISOs, municipalities, and technology partners.
  • Represent WSP at conferences, technical forums, user groups, and standards organizations.
  • Publish technical papers, white papers, and thought leadership content.
  • Support development of new service offerings and strategic partnerships.
