About The Position

The Senior Manager, Internal Communications will lead the company’s internal communications function and serve as the primary communications business partner for corporate functions. This role will help employees understand the company’s strategy, priorities, culture, and business performance while providing strategic communications counsel to leaders across HR, IT, Safety, Compliance, Legal, Finance, and other enterprise functions. The role will develop and execute enterprise internal communications strategies, lead a small internal communications team, and oversee content, channels, employee engagement events, and communications governance. The position reports to the Vice President of Marketing Communications and Internal Communications.

Requirements

• 8+ years of progressive communications experience, including internal communications, corporate communications, employee communications, HR communications, or related experience in a corporate environment.
• 5+ years of people leadership or team management experience preferred, including coaching team members, managing workloads, and building team structure and capabilities.
• Bachelor's degree in Journalism, Communications, Marketing, or related discipline, or equivalent combination of education and professional experience.
• Experience planning and executing large-scale employee events, town halls, recognition programs, culture-building initiatives, or similar employee engagement activities.
• Experience working in a dynamic, matrixed organization with multiple business units, locations, and stakeholder groups.
• Proven ability to build, lead, and continuously improve employee communications and engagement programs.
• Exceptional written, verbal, and executive communication skills.
• Experience developing communications strategies and plans for organizational change, business transformation, technology implementations, or other enterprise initiatives.
• Ability to communicate effectively with employees at all levels of the organization.
• Ability to translate executive and leadership messages into clear, employee-centered communications.
• Strong Microsoft Office proficiency.
• Familiarity with social media platforms.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Responsibilities

• Serve as the primary internal communications business partner for corporate functions by building trusted relationships with functional leaders and translating business priorities into clear, timely, employee-centered communications.
• Develop communications plans, messaging, leader talking points, FAQs, and channel strategies that help corporate functions engage employees, explain change, and reinforce enterprise priorities.
• Develop and lead the annual internal communications strategy to align messaging, channels, and employee engagement priorities with business objectives.
• Develop and maintain a content calendar (including key messaging, communication channels, and tactics) to ensure communications are timely and relevant.
• Advise leadership on communication approaches during organizational changes, business updates, and strategic initiatives.
• Lead, coach, and develop a small internal communications team, including manager-level, specialist-level, and intern resources.
• Set team priorities, goals, development plans, and performance expectations.
• Provide ongoing feedback, coaching, and career development support to team members.
• Manage workload, resource allocation, and project prioritization across the Internal Communications function.
• Serve as a strategic communications advisor to senior leaders and provide counsel on employee communications, leadership messaging, organizational change, and employee engagement initiatives.
• Build team capabilities in strategic communications, writing, channel management, stakeholder engagement, measurement, and event communications.
• Foster a collaborative, accountable, and service-oriented team culture.
• Partner with site coordinators and MarComm business partners to operate a communications network that plans and executes employee events, site communications, and corporate communications.
• Lead internal communications planning for major organizational changes, transformation programs, acquisitions, technology implementations, and other strategic initiatives.
• Develop messaging frameworks, leader talking points, FAQs, communication plans, and stakeholder-specific materials.
• Help employees understand what is changing, why it matters, how it affects them, and what actions are needed.
• Set editorial direction and quality standards for internal communications content across enterprise channels.
• Oversee development of employee communications, including leadership messages, newsletters, intranet content, videos, podcasts, presentations, and employee stories.
• Ensure content is aligned to company priorities, audience needs, brand voice, and communications objectives.
• Guide team members in drafting, editing, publishing, and measuring communications content.
• Manage and improve internal communication tools and channels, including PowerLine, Viva Engage, email, and other employee-facing platforms.
• Develop and manage an annual employee engagement communications and events calendar.
• Oversee communications and content strategy for enterprise employee engagement events, including All Team meetings, Engineers Week, recognition days, leadership events, and culture-building initiatives.
• Partner with site coordinators, HR, business leaders, and MarComm business partners to strengthen employee connection and participation.
• Identify opportunities to use communications and events to reinforce company culture, values, strategy, and employee recognition.
• Define and track communication KPIs.
• Evaluate employee engagement metrics, channel effectiveness, and communication outcomes.
• Monitor communication and employee engagement outcomes across content, channels, and events, and implement improvements based on insights.
• Recommend improvements based on analytics and employee feedback.
• Manage internal communications budget.
• Oversee agency and vendor relationships.
• Evaluate technology platforms and communication tools.
• Establish standards, editorial processes, communication calendars, and approval workflows.
• Maintain enterprise communication governance and communication planning process.
• Ensure consistent branding, voice, and messaging standards across internal communications.
