About The Position

This role manages and improves Walmart assets by supporting regional operations teams, monitoring capital spending, driving reliability and maintenance practices, and auditing the facility asset base. The position provides leadership to the regional operating team, develops and supports ongoing initiatives, and manages associate issues. It also provides support and direction for maintenance department operations within the logistics network, ensuring adherence to corporate and regulatory policies. The role develops new technology, processes, and strategies to improve throughput, oversees daily maintenance operations, and drives the execution of business plans and projects. Additionally, it promotes company policies and values, ensures business needs are met, and provides supervision and development opportunities for associates.

Requirements

  • Associate's degree or equivalent technical certification (e.g., Maintenance, Controls, Electrical) and 3 years of experience in an operations, distribution, logistics, or retail environment with responsibilities including: supervising and developing managers/supervisors, managing workload across multiple departments, participating in hiring and promotions.
  • OR 5 years experience in a maintenance or related technical environment with the same leadership and staffing responsibilities listed above.
  • Associates will be required to attend and successfully complete all job-required trainings and assessments (for example, Academy trainings, Open Door trainings, etc.).

Responsibilities

  • Manages accounts and partnerships with vendors by coordinating price negotiations, interacting with vendor supplied project managers, influencing vendors on service and warranty processes, reviewing contracts, auditing vendor vetting processes, and communicating with the contracting team.
  • Manages, protects, and improves Walmart assets by supporting the regional operations team during budgeting, monitoring capital spending plans and expense budgets, driving reliability and improved maintenance practices, auditing facility asset base, advising on asset condition for future replacements, developing annual overhaul and retrofit plans, providing input to operations and maintenance, and developing budget forecasts.
  • Provides leadership to the regional operating team and developing and supporting ongoing initiatives by participating in annual meetings, travel, weekly calls, coordination of operational strategy, utilization of assets, and establishment of standards; developing and communicating key performance and financial indicators; managing associate issues, investigations, human resource policies, recruiting, and budgeting; training managers on preventative maintenance scheduling; facilitating and setting agendas for regional communications; coordinating equipment replacement decisions; and analyzing equipment needs.
  • Provides support and direction for maintenance department operation in the logistics network by visiting distribution centers, working with management to identify improvement opportunities, implementing ideas, developing corrective action plans, influencing regional teams, coordinating with other home office departments, providing direct support for maintenance manager duties, and supporting the development of corrective action plans.
  • Ensures adherence to corporate policies in the area of distribution center (DC) maintenance management and compliance with regulatory policies and procedures by educating and training DC senior staff, maintenance associates, and regional operating teams; guiding the development of procedures, guidelines, and tools; communicating federal and state regulations; providing direction to senior leadership; initiating change in Walmart maintenance operating procedures; diagnosing areas with compliance deficiencies; and directing the development of corrective actions.
  • Develops new technology, processes, strategies and implements changes to improve throughput without impacting existing operations by managing facility and material handling projects, providing on-call support for technical issues, developing relationships with Walmart members of cross-functional departments, coordinating with vendors and operational teams to identify and test new technologies, and supporting DC Operations and Maintenance teams, vendors, and home office Purchasing and Contracts team to complete contracts and required vetting process.
  • Develops skills and abilities of maintenance management and other maintenance associates to prepare them for promotional opportunities by assessing needs and coordinating third party training activities, providing input to complete annual and mid-year evaluations, mentoring associates, cross training maintenance management, developing and recruiting maintenance management candidates, initiating relationship building activities with outside agencies and schools, and participating in internal and external recruiting initiatives.
  • Oversees maintenance department daily operations by monitoring and driving department performance related to maintaining warehouse equipment and monitoring and ensuring associate compliance with state and federal regulations relating to maintenance operations.
  • Drives the execution of multiple business plans and projects by identifying customer and operational needs; developing and communicating business plans and priorities; removing barriers and obstacles that impact performance; providing resources; identifying performance standards; measuring progress and adjusting performance accordingly; developing contingency plans; and demonstrating adaptability and supporting continuous learning.
  • Promotes and supports company policies, procedures, mission, values, and standards of ethics and integrity by training and providing direction to others in their use and application; ensuring compliance with them; and utilizing and supporting the Open Door Policy.
  • Ensures business needs are being met by evaluating the ongoing effectiveness of current plans, programs, and initiatives; consulting with business partners, managers, co-workers, or other key stakeholders; soliciting, evaluating, and applying suggestions for improving efficiency and cost effectiveness; and participating in and supporting community outreach events.
  • Provides supervision and development opportunities for associates by selecting and training; mentoring; assigning duties; building a team-based work environment; establishing performance expectations and conducting regular performance evaluations; providing recognition and rewards; coaching for success and improvement; and promoting a belonging mindset in the workplace.
