About The Position

Barnes Dennig Client Accounting & Advisory Services (CAAS) is seeking a Senior Manager for its Fractional Accounting & Advisory Services group. This client-facing role involves managing a portfolio of client relationships, contributing to business development, and overseeing a team of fractional advisors and staff. The position is ideal for experienced finance and accounting professionals who want to leverage their expertise across multiple businesses as a trusted external advisor. Senior Managers report to the Director of the practice and are expected to grow within the firm. Their responsibilities span client service, business development, and team oversight, with the specific focus varying based on individual strengths, capacity, and practice needs. The daily tasks will differ significantly depending on client, team, and practice requirements.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, Business Operations, or related field.
  • 7+ years of progressive experience as a CFO, Controller, Accounting Manager, or similar role.
  • Comfortability in a client-facing or stakeholder-facing environment.
  • Ability to communicate clearly, build rapport naturally, and translate financial complexity into plain language.
  • Prior leadership experience managing teams (formally or informally).
  • Ability to balance multiple priorities in a fast-paced, dynamic environment.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP, accounting operations, and financial reporting/analysis.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, evolving environment with a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset.
  • Ability to interact with all levels inside and outside the organization.
  • Ability to take initiative, anticipate problems and formulate resolutions.
  • Ability to exercise good judgment/decision making.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task.
  • Ability to work independently.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA or CPA track background preferred.
  • An interest in business development, with a willingness to network, engage with others, and cultivate relationships over time is preferred—no prior sales experience required.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a portfolio of clients, acting as the main point of contact for outsourced accounting, controller, and CFO advisory services.
  • Build trusted advisor relationships by deeply understanding client businesses and providing proactive, strategic guidance alongside daily support.
  • Support the onboarding of new clients, establishing workflows and ensuring a smooth, high-quality experience.
  • Maintain client satisfaction and retention through consistent communication, responsiveness, and quality deliverables.
  • Develop and nurture a professional network (bankers, attorneys, financial advisors, business owners) to generate referrals and new client opportunities.
  • Represent Barnes Dennig at local events, industry associations, and community organizations to build market presence.
  • Contribute to thought leadership via LinkedIn, webinars, and content to establish the practice as a trusted resource.
  • Collaborate with the firm's marketing group to identify opportunities and support growth-focused campaigns.
  • Serve as a direct supervisor to other fractional advisors and associates, providing feedback, performance guidance, and professional development support.
  • Conduct check-ins and performance conversations to aid direct reports' growth, client confidence, and development.
  • Identify strengths and development gaps within team members and collaborate with other Sr. Managers to create career growth paths.
  • Participate in recruiting efforts by identifying talent, engaging candidates, and contributing to a hiring process that reflects the firm's culture.
  • Support the onboarding and integration of new hires, ensuring they have the necessary tools, context, and relationships.
  • Foster a team environment that promotes accountability, support, and motivation, modeling expected standards.
  • Contribute to capacity planning and workload management for direct reports, escalating concerns to the Director as needed.
