About The Position

Manage energy commodity hedging, contract origination and administration, and forward trading activities necessary to achieve reliable, low-cost service to retail customers and optimize the value of excess generation assets in the wholesale markets. Responsible for achieving wholesale sales revenue targets; overseeing the natural gas fuel hedging program, identifying and executing economic and operational forward trading opportunities, and managing carbon allowance portfolios.

Requirements

  • Minimum 8 years of relevant experience required.
  • Knowledge of economic operation of power systems, commodity trading concepts, and SRP's contractual relationship with other energy market players.
  • Establishment and cultivation of wholesale customer relationships is an important element for success of the wholesale marketing programs.
  • Personal involvement by the Senior Manager may be required in sensitive negotiations or high-value origination activities.
  • Requires occasional presentations to the SRP Board to seek approval for sales or purchase contracts.
  • Balancing multiple and diverse responsibilities within an operations environment.

Responsibilities

  • Lead, plan, and manage teams supporting forward markets, origination, fuel procurement, and contract management, including oversight of coal supply, transportation planning, inventory management, and coordination with plant operations
  • Develop and execute forward trading and hedging strategies across power, natural gas, coal, and environmental commodities to ensure reliable service, optimize costs, and achieve wholesale revenue targets
  • Oversee the natural gas fuel hedging program, maintaining commodity risk exposures within Board‑approved limits and corporate risk policies, and provide regular performance monitoring and reporting
  • Manage Renewable Energy Credit (REC) and carbon allowance portfolios, including compliance strategies aligned with regulatory requirements and corporate objectives
  • Originate, structure, and execute wholesale power transactions across forward markets, including long‑term contracts in organized and bilateral markets.
  • Lead contract negotiation and execution for PPAs, fuel supply agreements, tolling arrangements, and commodity hedges, including pricing structures, delivery terms, credit support, and risk mitigants
  • Manage the energy commodity contracting function and prepare commercial summaries, investment justifications, and approval materials for management, risk committees, executive leadership, and the SRP Board
  • Optimize the value of generation and contract portfolios, including hydro generation assets, while meeting environmental, recreational, and water delivery requirements
  • Coordinate post‑execution activities with trading, fuel, scheduling, settlements, and back‑office teams to ensure effective contract performance and delivery
  • Collaborate with Resource Planning and cross‑functional teams on long‑term fuel delivery strategies, load and resource planning processes, market design considerations, and annual budget development
  • Identify and pursue commercial opportunities driven by market fundamentals, regulatory changes, and decarbonization objectives, and maintain relationships with utilities, IPPs, developers, fuel suppliers, marketers, financial institutions, and large customers
  • Represent the organization externally at industry forums and counterpart meetings, and present market conditions, strategies, and forward commodity positions to senior leadership, risk oversight committees, and the SRP Board
