This role is part of the Lunar Permanence business unit, which develops Blue Origin’s Blue Moon landers and related products. To further Blue Origin's mission of millions of people living and working in space for the benefit of Earth, we are building sustainable infrastructure for our transport of crew and cargo from Earth to the lunar surface. Our MK2 Crew Lander mission will demonstrate the lander’s core capabilities – including the privately funded BE-7 landing engine, precision landing sensors, and integrated power and propulsion architecture – as a precursor to certifying the vehicle for use by NASA as part of the Artemis lunar exploration program. The team building this vehicle is rethinking how space systems are designed, with a high-performance architecture, efficient reusability, and rapid design iteration. As the Senior Manager of the Pumps Product Team, you will lead a hardworking team of specialists, technicians, and engineers, to design, analyze, build, test, integrate, deliver, and operate pumps for our Lunar systems. We are looking for someone to apply their technical expertise, leadership skills, communication skills, and dedication to quality to positively impact safe human spaceflight. Requirements

  • B.S. in Engineering or related technical subject area
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical, cost, and schedule leadership of a team
  • 8+ years managing technical teams and/or leading functional groups with responsibility for leading and coaching employees
  • 15+ years of pump development experience
  • In depth understanding of fluids and mechanical engineering principles
  • Track record of delivering large integrated products, on schedule and in budget
  • Excellent verbal, written, and graphical communication skills
  • Ability to earn trust and maintain positive and professional relationships

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with space vehicle design
  • Experience with cryogenic applications
  • Experience managing suppliers/subcontracts
  • Experience with aerospace components
  • Experience with CAD (Creo), Windchill PLM, and GD&T
  • Demonstrated capability to manage test campaigns
  • Experience with critical path scheduling, IMP/IMS, risk management, requirements management and Cost Account Management such as EVM

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for leading a technical team to deliver high-performance pumps for Lunar systems
  • Accountable for definition, specification, and development of hardware to meet mission objectives and satisfy requirements while balancing cost, schedule, and risk
  • Recruit, hire, manage, and mentor a a team of engineers and other technical professionals
  • Manage your direct reports’ professional development (e.g., coaching, routine one-on-one development conversations, performance reviews, and promotion management)
  • Develop robust plans meeting deliverables and manage to the key operating metrics - including technical, cost, schedule, and risk
  • Develop product roadmaps, including development and incorporation of technologies to meet future mission requirements
  • Work with internal and external customers to understand and shape stakeholder current and future mission needs
  • Perform technical work and provide technical leadership of the highest caliber
  • Monitor technical progress, requirements, budget, schedule, deliverables and risks as well as review recommendations for change with program management
  • Communicate progress to leadership team via; program management reviews weekly/monthly, finance reviews, long term forecasting business plan, and project deep dives
  • Utilize good engineering and business judgement to ensure the most efficient and effective product is designed, manufactured, procured, tested, qualified, and delivered
