Learn more at https://www.jnj.com/medtech The Senior Manager, External Manufacturing MSM Operations a key member of the Surgical Vision Supply Chain team, responsible for leading productivity initiatives, materials management, and supply continuity efforts across the end-to-end Surgical Vision supply chain. This role ensures continuity of supply and customer service by proactively identifying opportunities to improve cost, service, inventory, and materials flow while resolving critical supply disruptions through strong cross-functional leadership. This position requires a strong understanding of the business segment and end-to-end supply chain, along with the ability to collaborate effectively across Plan, Make, Engineering, Source, Deliver, IT, Quality, Regulatory, and External Manufacturing to strengthen strategic reliability and risk management processes. Reporting to the External Manufacturing Director, the Senior Manager Material Supply Management and Productivity Lead will be responsible for managing the J&J Vision External Manufacturing Raw Material Network and delivering on productivity targets in strong collaboration with all functions that constitute E2E Supply Chain.

Requirements

  • A minimum of a bachelor’s degree is required; a technical degree in Engineering, Supply Chain Management, Operations, or a related field is preferred.
  • A minimum of 8 years of experience in medical device, pharmaceutical, healthcare, or another regulated industry is required.
  • Proven experience leading complex cross-functional programs and rapid response or issue resolution teams is required
  • Strong project and program management capabilities, including risk assessment, prioritization, escalation, governance, and stakeholder management, are required.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence and lead in a matrixed environment without direct authority is required
  • Experience in root cause analysis, investigations, and CAPA execution is required
  • Ability to operate effectively in high-pressure, fast-paced environments is required
  • Strong understanding of end-to-end supply chain processes across Plan, Source, Make, Deliver, and external manufacturing is required.
  • Experience working in global, cross-cultural, and virtual teams is required
  • Ability to travel domestically and/or internationally up to 25% of the time is required

Nice To Haves

  • An advanced degree such as an MBA or MS is preferred.
  • Experience in Operations, Technical Operations, Quality, or Planning is preferred
  • Lean / Six Sigma certification (Green or Black Belt) is preferred
  • Project Management certification (PMI or equivalent) is preferred

Responsibilities

  • Lead, coach, and develop a materials supply management and productivity-focused team, setting clear priorities, building capability, and driving accountability for business outcomes.
  • Foster a high-performing, collaborative culture across internal teams and external manufacturing partners, ensuring strong engagement, communication, and execution discipline.
  • Lead supply chain productivity initiatives to deliver cost improvement targets across the Surgical Vision external manufacturing network, including value stream opportunities, supplier productivity, inventory optimization, and process improvements.
  • Partner with Source, Plan, Make, Finance, Quality, Engineering, and External Manufacturing to identify, prioritize, and execute cost improvement projects that improve service, cost, cash, and operational efficiency.
  • Manage the external manufacturing raw material supply network to ensure continuity of supply, reliable materials flow, and alignment with business demand and production requirements.
  • Drive governance and issue resolution for material constraints, supplier performance challenges, inventory risks, and capacity-related concerns impacting external manufacturing operations.
  • Identify, assess, prioritize, and mitigate supplier, material, external manufacturing, and end-to-end supply chain risks; maintain risk visibility and drive timely mitigation actions.
  • Lead cross-functional escalation and rapid response activities to minimize business disruption, customer impact, and compliance risk while ensuring effective root cause resolution and preventive actions.
  • Support project management office activities for strategic supply chain projects related to service, compliance, productivity, risk mitigation, and materials reliability.
  • Develop project plans, dashboards, governance updates, executive communications, and performance tracking to ensure cross-functional alignment, transparency, and delivery against milestones.
