About The Position

The Senior Manager, Electrical Engineering, Drone will lead and grow the team responsible for electrical design of Applied Intuition’s drone platforms, from power and avionics architecture through full aircraft integration. The role owns the electrical engineering roadmap for uncrewed aircraft, hires and develops electrical engineers, and works hands-on across the product design lifecycle, from concept and prototype through flight testing and production. The manager leads electrical engineering for power distribution, avionics, sensors, and wiring and harness systems. The role guides schematic design and PCB layout, oversees harness and cable-routing design, and owns design, analysis, and validation quality at component, assembly, and integrated-aircraft levels. It also champions manufacturability, repairability, and field serviceability; engages with PCB and PCBA vendors and suppliers; and partners with autonomy, mechanical, avionics, software, and flight-test leaders to ensure designs meet mission requirements. Applied Intuition is an in-office company. Full-time employees are expected to work primarily from an Applied Intuition office five days per week, with occasional remote work and schedule flexibility. This expectation does not apply to contractor positions.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience designing drones, UAS, or aircraft.
  • Experience designing and building prototype vehicles or uncrewed aircraft.
  • Experience with high-volume production of hardware products.
  • Experience building real-time hardware systems with safety constraints.
  • Experience with Altium Designer.
  • Experience designing circuits that drive cameras and/or displays.
  • Hands-on experience shipping high-complexity hardware in both early-stage startup (0-to-1) and mass-production environments.
  • Experience with high-power systems and batteries.

Responsibilities

  • Build and lead a team of electrical engineers responsible for drone-platform power distribution, avionics, sensors, and wiring and harness systems.
  • Guide electrical schematic design, including SoCs/MCUs, power electronics, memory components, and high- and low-speed digital interfaces.
  • Oversee PCB layout and design to meet design-for-excellence standards and performance, cost, mechanical, thermal, and reliability constraints.
  • Guide wire-harness, cable-routing, and electrical-distribution-system design for assembly, serviceability, and robust functionality.
  • Own design, analysis, and validation quality at component, assembly, and fully integrated aircraft levels, including bench, environmental, and flight testing.
  • Champion design for manufacturability, repairability, and field serviceability, and work with PCB/PCBA vendors and suppliers.
  • Hire, mentor, and develop electrical engineers, and manage their performance and career development.
  • Partner with autonomy, mechanical, avionics, software, and flight-test leaders to ensure designs meet mission requirements.
