About The Position

Walmart Global Data Foundation is seeking a Senior Manager for Data Ventures Data Engineering Team to lead the architecture, design, and hands-on development of scalable, cloud-native, AI powered data platforms that power our data products. This is a builder's role: you'll blend deep technical leadership with people leadership writing production-quality code, owning the architectural integrity of critical services, and guiding a team of engineers who genuinely love owning what they build. You'll partner closely with cross-functional stakeholders to translate complex business problems into reliable, governed, customer-centric data products, while championing engineering, operational excellence, and continuous improvement across the team. About the team: The Global Data Foundation (GDF) is a key engineering team within Walmart’s Global Tech, Data & AI pillar, developing advanced data platforms and intelligent systems that support transformative data needs of organization. Walmart Data Ventures operates with the agility of a nimble startup — incubated within Walmart but unencumbered by legacy process — building a best-in-class suite of data products that deliver actionable, customer-centric insights. Our flagship platform, Scintilla, empowers CPG suppliers and Walmart merchants with omni-channel 360° performance insights, enabling faster and better business decisions. Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 7 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • Master's degree in Computer Science and 3 years' experience in software engineering or related field.
  • 4 years' experience in data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics.
  • 1 year’s supervisory experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Data engineering, database engineering, business intelligence, or business analytics, ETL tools and working with large data sets in the cloud
  • Master’s degree in Computer Science or related field and 5 years' experience in software engineering or related field
  • Knowledge in implementing Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 AA standards, assistive technologies, and integrating digital accessibility seamlessly.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of scalable data engineering solutions to support business analytics and AI initiatives.
  • Oversee data integration, transformation, and quality assurance processes across data sources and platforms.
  • Implement and maintain data governance practices ensuring compliance with regulatory and ethical standards.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into effective data strategies and architectures.
  • Mentor and guide engineering teams, promoting best practices in coding, testing, and data modeling.
  • Evaluate emerging technologies to enhance data infrastructure and automation capabilities.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data pipelines, ensuring reliability and performance at scale.
  • Lead the architecture, design, and hands-on development of scalable, cloud-native, AI-powered data platforms and products.
  • Write production-quality code and implement complex, distributed systems — this role stays close to the code, not just the roadmap.
  • Architect end-to-end data pipelines that integrate data sources into reliable, data products for merchants and suppliers.
  • Establish data governance, automated data quality frameworks, and compliance practices that scale with the platform.
  • Champion DevOps, CI/CD, reliability, observability drive code reviews, incident resolution, and system performance optimization as a hands-on technical leader.
  • Experience leading engineering teams, mentoring engineers, and managing multiple projects effectively in a fast-paced, agile environment.
