About The Position

The Construction Permitting & Compliance Manager serves as MN8’s subject matter expert on environmental and permitting compliance during the construction phase of projects. This role is responsible for ensuring compliance with environmental laws, permits, and company standards while supporting cross-functional teams across the project lifecycle. This position partners closely with Permitting & Environmental, Execution, Engineering, Legal, EHS, and Asset Management teams to develop scalable compliance frameworks, support construction-phase operations, and contribute to due diligence efforts for mergers and acquisitions. The role plays a critical part in protecting environmental resources while enabling project execution and business growth. A successful candidate is a proactive problem-solver and process architect with deep expertise in environmental compliance during construction. They communicate effectively across business verticals, anticipate risks, and drive continuous improvement in environmental performance at active construction sites.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field
  • 5+ years of experience in environmental permitting and compliance, preferably in renewable energy or infrastructure projects
  • Strong knowledge of federal, state, and local environmental regulations (e.g., NEPA, Clean Water Act, ESA)
  • Experience managing environmental consultants and cross-functional stakeholders
  • Proven ability to build processes, tools, and compliance frameworks in a project-based environment

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise on environmental and permitting requirements during construction phases
  • Oversee environmental consultants and ensure required studies, monitoring, and reporting are completed
  • Interpret and communicate permit conditions, ensuring compliance obligations are clearly understood across project teams
  • Develop and maintain permit matrices, reports, and documentation to track compliance
  • Partner cross-functionally with P&E, Execution, Engineering, Legal, EHS, and Asset Management teams
  • Define permit ownership and develop RACI frameworks to clarify responsibilities across teams
  • Coordinate handoffs from Development P&E at LNTP and to Asset Management at COD
  • Ensure compliance requirements and documentation are properly transitioned across project lifecycle phases
  • Establish tools, systems, and processes to track environmental and permitting obligations
  • Maintain centralized documentation and reporting frameworks to demonstrate compliance
  • Lead environmental and permitting discussions during construction planning and project kickoffs
  • Facilitate coordination meetings with EPCs, consultants, and internal stakeholders
  • Develop and implement environmental training programs and SOPs for construction teams and on-site personnel
  • Provide guidance on permit-required monitoring, reporting, and mitigation strategies
  • Support teams in troubleshooting environmental issues and resolving compliance-related challenges
  • Conduct site visits as needed to assess compliance and provide field-level guidance
  • Support environmental compliance as projects transition from construction to operations
  • Partner with EHS to support development of an Environmental Management System (EMS)
  • Lead or support permitting modifications required during construction or operational phases (e.g., repowers, remediation, issue resolution)
  • Ensure ongoing compliance with permits and regulatory requirements throughout the asset lifecycle
