Senior Manager Compute Solutions Architecture

Megaport•San Francisco, CA

About The Position

Megaport is the global leader in Network as a Service (NaaS), transforming how businesses connect. Headquartered in Brisbane, with over 600 employees globally, Megaport fosters a collaborative, supportive, and fun environment. The company is committed to increasing representation in the tech industry and encourages applications from all backgrounds. This role is a player-coach position, leading the Compute Solutions Architecture team for Latitude, a new business unit focused on combining compute and connectivity. The role involves leading a team, driving technical wins, and maintaining architectural standards, while also being hands-on with customers. Latitude is a fast-paced business unit within a public company, requiring a significant portion of time dedicated to both leadership and direct deal involvement. The position is based in San Francisco, working closely with sales specialists and account managers, and leading a globally distributed team. The mission is to make the combined compute and connectivity offer sellable across various channels, including direct sales, Megaport's global sales pods, and the partner channel. This role is compute-first, with network design support from Megaport's network Solution Architects.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in a technical customer-facing role (Solutions Architect, Sales Engineer, Professional Services Engineer, or similar).
  • At least 3 years leading or formally mentoring a technical pre-sales team.
  • Proven track record as a player-coach, having personally managed strategic accounts while leading a team, with demonstrable success in closing deals.
  • Strong hands-on expertise in bare metal compute, GPU/accelerated compute, server architecture, virtualization, containerization, and workload performance planning.
  • Credibility in AI and HPC infrastructure, including cluster design, high-performance networking and interconnect, storage profiles for training and inference, and the economics of dedicated versus hyperscaler compute.
  • Familiarity with networking fundamentals (BGP, private connectivity, hybrid and multicloud patterns) sufficient to integrate compute within broader architectures and collaborate with network Solution Architects.
  • Understanding of compute buying cycles, solution selling, and sizing for performance-intensive workloads.
  • Demonstrated ability to build a technical go-to-market motion within a larger sales organization, including enablement, pods, and partner-led strategies.
  • Comfort operating within an integration environment involving multiple companies, systems, and evolving processes.
  • Based in or willing to relocate to the San Francisco Bay Area.
  • Willingness to travel approximately 30%.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience at an alternative or specialty cloud provider (bare metal, GPU cloud, neocloud) competing against hyperscalers on price-performance.
  • Experience architecting or selling through cloud marketplaces, resellers, or wholesale channels.
  • Exposure to supply-constrained infrastructure businesses, including allocation, long-term commit structures, and expectation setting under scarcity.
  • Working Portuguese or Spanish.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the Function (the coach): Own, coach, and grow the Latitude Compute Solutions Architecture team, including hiring, ramp-up, account coverage, career paths, and performance.
  • Set the coverage model: Define which accounts and deal sizes require a named SA, what Sales Specialists and Account Managers can handle independently, and where the team must decline engagement.
  • Define and enforce the technical qualification bar: Establish discovery standards, architecture review processes, POC entry and exit criteria, and a documented technical win/loss review process.
  • Own SA capacity planning and the seller-to-SA ratio, and use data to justify changes.
  • Build the reusable asset library: Develop reference architectures, sizing models, POC playbooks, and competitive technical positioning to ensure wins are repeatable.
  • Partner with sales leadership on forecast accuracy, providing technical risk assessments as a key input.
  • Technical Pre-Sales You Carry Yourself (the player): Personally lead compute discovery, architecture design, sizing, and performance mapping on the largest and most strategic opportunities.
  • Translate technical requirements into tailored bare metal, GPU/accelerated compute, and storage configurations, and defend these choices with customer engineers.
  • Deliver technical demos, workshops, whiteboarding sessions, and proofs of concept directly.
  • Act as the primary customer escalation point, being actively involved in calls and meetings to provide detailed technical expertise.
  • Support customers through evaluations, pilots, and onboarding, ensuring clean handoffs with robust architecture documentation.
  • Represent Latitude publicly through customer briefings, webinars, and industry events.
  • Megaport + Latitude Integration: Build the joint Latitude + Megaport reference architecture and establish it as the default offering.
  • Enable Megaport's global Sales Pods to effectively position compute, including pre-approved Latitude offers that Megaport sellers can manage without an SA.
  • Extend the technical motion into Megaport's partner, reseller, and wholesale channels.
  • Design solutions for the hyperscaler marketplace gap, focusing on hybrid-node and adjacency plays.
  • Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with Product and Engineering to relay customer feedback and influence roadmap direction.
  • Work with Latitude Procurement and Operations to confirm server availability, GPU/CPU classes, realistic deployment timelines, and manage customer expectations regarding supply constraints.
  • Maintain accurate technical notes and solution details in CRM, and ensure the team adheres to the same standard.
  • Contribute to internal enablement materials and repeatable solution patterns for both Latitude and Megaport teams.
