About The Position

The Senior Manager, Commercial Credit, is responsible for strategic guidance and active management of highly complex commercial files. They will provide adjudication of commercial files by exercising lending limits and signing authority, reviewing files for escalation and developing recommendations on applications and commercial credit activities while ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and Credit Risk policies. The incumbent will develop and enhance the commercial process and procedures providing a proactive and forward-looking approach aligning with Credit risk strategy and the Credit Union’s risk appetite. This role is open to hybrid/remote working arrangements within British Columbia.

Requirements

  • Completion of post-secondary education.
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience in commercial risk underwriting, in addition to 7-9 years of field experience in commercial lending.
  • Experience with leadership accountability for the performance of commercial loans.
  • Demonstrated ability to review and use data and reporting to support and grow the Commercial Credit portfolio.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills, including influencing and networking with the ability to act as a collaborative partner with leaders and positively influence management and staff to act in the best interest of the Credit Union.
  • In-depth knowledge of credit structuring, security requirements, lending policy, guidelines and practices.
  • Strong working knowledge of regulatory and legislative requirements related to commercial lending.

Responsibilities

  • Provide independent, objective review and adjudication of commercial credit applications within delegated lending limits and authority.
  • Ensure applications meet acceptable risk requirements in accordance with lending practices, Credit Union lending policy, as well as regulatory and legislative requirements.
  • Develop comprehensive commercial file recommendations and escalate approvals and reviews as required.
  • Actively pursues the assessment of loan portfolio risks, trends and maintenance of credit quality through recommendation of commercial lending limits, monitoring of portfolio performance, identification of emerging industry risks, and training and guidance of commercial lenders.
  • Present recommended applications to the Management Credit Committee through established approval processes.
  • Analyze best practice and develop recommendations to support strategy decisions including revisions and development of commercial credit activities in alignment with the Credit Union’s strategic plan and risk appetite.
  • Promote enterprise-wide risk management philosophy toward commercial credit and aid in the development of commercial credit policies, procedures, guidelines and systems.
  • Exercise subject matter expertise in the development and writing of policy, procedures and guidelines.
  • Assist in alignment of policy and guidelines across teams, enhancing feedback loop to ensure effectiveness of policies and guidelines.
  • Conduct and assist in data review and analysis for reporting purposes. Contributing to the development of report narratives.
  • Collaborate with Internal Audit services (PRA) to review credit audit findings, develop recommendations, and action findings.
  • Liaison with the Learning and Development team supporting training initiatives as needed, providing subject matter expertise.
  • Work in partnership with the commercial network, internal and external stakeholders to provide guidance and support as needed with lending files, policy, procedures, guidelines ensuring adherence and alignment to the Credit Union’s risk appetite.
  • Support organizational integration activities, continuously exercising the ability to lead with agility and curiosity.
  • Leads using their exceptional knowledge and understanding of the total commercial credit function to prioritize activities that have end-to-end impact.
