Senior Manager, CFO Advisory - EPM & FP&A Modernization

West MonroeChicago, IL
$184,900 - $250,100Hybrid

About The Position

West Monroe is seeking a Senior Manager to lead EPM and FP&A advisory and solution architecture within our growing CFO Advisory team. This role is for a leader who combines deep architecture experience with a vendor-agnostic perspective and can help finance executives select, design, and implement solutions that improve planning, forecasting, consolidation, close, and performance management. As a Senior Manager, you will lead complex EPM programs, serve as a trusted advisor to CFOs and finance technology leaders, maintain a market-informed platform selection point of view, and build strong delivery capabilities across West Monroe. You will be expected to go beyond project management and provide hands-on architecture leadership across data, dimensions, calculations, integrations, controls, and operating model decisions.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in finance, accounting, information systems, computer science, business, or a related discipline, or equivalent experience.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in enterprise performance management, corporate finance systems, financial consolidation, planning, or related consulting and implementation work.
  • Experience delivering at least five full-lifecycle EPM implementations, including at least two in a solution architect or equivalent design authority role.
  • Experience diagnosing and recovering at least one challenged EPM implementation, with the ability to explain the architecture, data, governance, delivery, and adoption failure modes involved.
  • Deep certification and implementation expertise in at least one major EPM platform such as OneStream, Anaplan, Workday Adaptive Planning, or Oracle EPM Cloud, with credible working knowledge across several additional planning, consolidation, and performance management platforms.
  • Deep knowledge of consolidation mechanics, including intercompany eliminations, currency translation, CTA, minority interest, equity pickup, pushdown accounting, and reporting controls.
  • Strong experience in dimensional design, chart-of-accounts and hierarchy design, metadata governance, rules and calculation engines, and data integration.
  • Experience designing driver-based planning models, rolling forecasts, scenario analysis, and forecast accuracy measurement using metrics such as MAPE and bias.
  • Understanding of close, reconciliation, and external reporting platforms sufficient to design integrations and an end-to-end finance architecture.
  • Experience advising mid-market and private equity-backed organizations and leading complex engagements, executive client relationships, cross-functional teams, and third-party implementation partners without over-engineering the solution.
  • Demonstrated contribution to business development, platform alliance relationships, proposals, solution design, and practice growth.
  • Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to translate complex architecture decisions into clear executive-level recommendations.
  • Experience using AI tools in day-to-day work to improve productivity and insight generation, paired with strong critical thinking to evaluate accuracy, bias, controls, and business relevance.
  • Ability to work permanently in the United States without sponsorship.
  • A commitment to inclusion and diversity, and openness to new ideas and perspectives.
  • Ability to travel up to 50 percent based on client and engagement needs.

Nice To Haves

  • CPA, CMA, MBA, or a controllership, FP&A, or corporate finance leadership background.
  • Prior practice-building or partner-track experience in an EPM-focused consulting organization, including architecture across planning and consolidation and development of platform selection thought leadership or implementation benchmarks

Responsibilities

  • Lead solution architecture for EPM and FP&A modernization programs, including dimensional design, planning model architecture, consolidation logic, metadata governance, calculation design, workflow, security, and integration architecture.
  • Lead vendor-agnostic platform selections, including business and technical requirements, use-case prioritization, vendor demonstrations, scoring, total cost of ownership, implementation risk, and roadmap development.
  • Advise CFOs, Controllers, FP&A leaders, and finance technology executives on platform strategy, target-state architecture, implementation sequencing, governance, and adoption.
  • Design driver-based planning and rolling forecast solutions, including assumptions governance, scenario modeling, forecast accuracy measurement, bias analysis, and management reporting.
  • Architect consolidation and reporting solutions that address intercompany eliminations, currency translation and CTA, minority interest, equity pickup, pushdown accounting, statutory reporting, and management reporting requirements.
  • Design source-system integration patterns and data quality controls across ERP, operational, planning, and reporting environments, recognizing that data and governance issues often determine program success.
  • Assess struggling EPM programs, identify root causes, define recovery plans, and lead remediation across architecture, data, governance, delivery, and adoption.
  • Own engagement delivery across scope, budget, profitability, staffing, risk, quality, and client satisfaction while coordinating business, technology, and implementation partner stakeholders.
  • Apply AI and automation to requirements analysis, model design, testing, documentation, and insight generation while maintaining appropriate human review, data protection, and financial control discipline.
  • Build executive relationships with CFOs, Controllers, FP&A leaders, finance transformation executives, and technology leaders.
  • Identify and shape opportunities across EPM strategy, platform selection, implementation, close and consolidation, reconciliation, reporting, data modernization, and finance operating model transformation.
  • Lead or support proposals, statements of work, solution design, implementation estimates, pricing, and executive presentations.
  • Maintain productive, arm's-length relationships with EPM software vendors and implementation ecosystem partners while preserving West Monroe's independent advisory position.
  • Represent West Monroe at finance technology events and contribute thought leadership on EPM modernization, platform selection, planning transformation, and AI-enabled finance.
  • Own and refresh West Monroe's EPM platform selection point of view, including implementation cost, duration, architecture considerations, delivery risks, common failure modes, and fit by client context.
  • Develop reusable methodologies, requirements libraries, vendor scorecards, architecture templates, design standards, testing approaches, and implementation accelerators.
  • Lead, coach, and mentor Managers, Senior Consultants, Consultants, and architects, with hands-on review of solution designs and executive deliverables.
  • Serve as a Career Advisor and actively participate in performance management, recruiting, interviewing, onboarding, certification planning, and technical capability development.
  • Collaborate across CFO Advisory, ERP Strategy, Data and AI, Technology and Experience, Mergers and Acquisitions, and industry teams to deliver integrated finance transformation solutions.
