About The Position

We are seeking Senior Manager-level candidates with both prior research credit experience as well as a background in science (e.g. biology, chemistry, etc.), engineering (e.g. electrical, mechanical, industrial, etc.), and/or technology (e.g. software development, programming, etc.). The Senior Manager is primarily responsible for the day-to-day oversight, management and performance of the team of Staff, Seniors and Managers in the QS/R&D Edge STEM team. A Senior Manager will also have a direct client-facing role and will be expected to lead select highly-technical and high-profile client discussions (e.g. technical research credit interviews, certain technical scoping or proposal discussions, etc.) with our clients' engineers, scientists and software developers, helping determine whether certain activities meet the qualification requirements for research tax credits/incentives. A Senior Manager will also be responsible for playing a critical role with regard to the strategy, operation and quality of our off-shore (GDS) R&D team, as well contribute directly to the development of new and existing internal- and client-facing software/technology platforms and tools.

Requirements

  • A bachelor's degree in a related field (i.e. engineering, science, computer programming, etc.) or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 8-10 years professional research credit firm experience.
  • Detailed knowledge of the rules and tax technical qualification requirements for the US Federal research tax credit as well as potentially other US and foreign R&D incentives.
  • Basic knowledge of the use and navigation of Prodigy.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Responsible for management of own daily project tasks in order to meeting client deadlines.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively.
  • Strong organizational and verbal communication skills.
  • Flexibility with client demands and tight deadlines.
  • Ability to work overtime when needed to meet client needs.
  • Willingness to travel - some travel, whether for client/engagement or internal meetings, is required.

  • Microsoft certifications or experience in Word, Excel, Ppt, Teams, Alteryx, PowerBI.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee all aspects of the US Edge R&D STEM team, including general administration/management, day-to-day operations, recruiting, onboarding, development and implementation of training (process, tax technical, technology, etc.), staffing/client assignments/team utilization, quality review process, process & workflow development/improvement, best practices, and customer satisfaction of R&D engagement teams.
  • Lead detailed technical interviews for select R&D engagements/pursuits with client engineers, scientists and software developers to determine eligibility/qualification for R&D tax credits and incentives.
  • Utilize specific STEM expertise to make and assist other team members with technical determinations as to whether certain activities meet the requirements for research credits/incentives based on the results of technical interviews and surveys/questionnaires prepared by client STEM personnel.
  • Review various tax- and STEM-technical memos and other technology/engineering discipline-specific client deliverable documents (e.g. company/technology overview, methodology memorandum, etc.).
  • Assist NTD QS leadership team with the ongoing management, expansion, quality, improvement, etc. of the QS/R&D offshore (GDS team) in multiple global locations, including development of optimal collaboration model with US Edge STEM R&D team.
  • Play critical role with the identification, development and introduction of new/improved tools/technologies to increase quality and efficiency of R&D engagement execution.
  • Advise on determining the optimal mix/structure of specialty support teams (Edge STEM, GDS, Edge data, etc.) and individual resources in order to achieve optimal quality, efficiency, margin, etc., for each significant research credit engagement.
  • Using specific scientific, engineering and/or computer science expertise, analyze and interpret detailed technical engineering/software development documentation to assist in making determinations as to whether certain activities meet the requirements for research credits/incentives.
  • Provide technical feedback on specific technical deliverables prepared by the Edge STEM and GDS team members on specific client engagements as well as overall quality assurance/review for both teams more broadly.
  • Interpret case law to apply the facts and circumstances effectively to client facts.
  • Directly supervise all aspects and all members (Staff – Manager) of the US QS Edge R&D team, as well as indirectly supervise the execution and work product quality produced by the GDS R&D team members.
  • Effectively work on multiple projects (leadership/practice management as well as client engagements) simultaneously.
  • Prioritize or request clarification on the priority of various engagements.
  • Manage daily project tasks in order to meet client deadlines.
  • Provide regular status updates to and communicate daily with NTD QS/Edge leadership team.
