About The Position

Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Senior Manager, Budgeting and Forecasting, provides support for activities required to effectively manage budgeting and monitor spending for the Internet Society and Internet Society Foundation. This role is responsible for overseeing the budgeting, forecasting, internal financial reporting, and analysis of financial results.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance with 8-10 years of experience
  • Prior experience in budgeting and forecasting for a global non-profit organization is highly preferred.
  • Solid reporting and presentation skills preferred.
  • Excellent computer skills; advanced MS Excel skills and proficiency with accounting, budgeting, and forecasting systems.
  • Strong knowledge of finance and accounting standards, and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP).
  • Previous management experience preferred.
  • Strong attention to detail, demonstrated integrity, and professionalism.
  • Must be proficient and able to thrive in a fast-paced, global environment.
  • Ability to multitask, work under pressure, and meet deadlines required.
  • Strong interpersonal communication skills, both written and verbal.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the annual budgeting process, including coordinating with strategy on timeline alignment, developing training for non-finance staff on budget monitoring and expense coding, and ensuring cross-functional readiness.
  • Partner with program and department budget owners to develop and manage budgets and financial plans for all approved programs, operations, and strategic initiatives.
  • Manage the forecasting process to ensure the financial forecast reflects actual results, emerging trends, and updated expectations.
  • Oversee the Budgeting and Forecasting team in analyzing and monitoring the actual-to-budget variances, identifying material deviations, and ensuring the organization’s spending remains aligned with approved budget and plans.
  • Analyze the financial performance of programs and operations, delivering actionable insights and ongoing financial guidance to budget owners across the organization.
  • Partner with the Accounting team to ensure that internal financial reports are tailored to the needs of program and department budget owners, senior leadership, and the Board of Trustees, and that they are produced accurately and timely.
  • Lead budget-to-actual variance reviews, proactively identify spending risks in collaboration with budget owners, and ensure senior leadership is well apprised.
  • Support the CFO with board reporting, long-term financial sustainability planning, and annual audit preparation.
  • Supervise and develop the Senior Accountant, Budgeting & Forecasting, providing mentorship, performance guidance, and day-to-day oversight.
  • Oversee financial management of grants awarded to ISOC, ensuring appropriate spend, accurate coding of eligible expenses, timely reporting, proactive monitoring for delays or underspend, and alignment with the Accounting team on restricted balances and the net asset roll forward.
