The Senior Manager, Advanced Manufacturing will lead a team of Advanced Manufacturing Engineering (AME) engineers to support advanced engineering across the Clothes care business in AP1 specifically support the dryer production line Appliance Park in Louisville, Kentucky and the changes as they are defined to match the volume and appearance drive by the corresponding Nexus Horizontal Axis Washer NPI program, the AME team will develop, manage and execute capital equipment and high volume manufacturing process projects to meet required budget and launch schedules. This is a hands-on leadership role, and the leader will be expected to provide leadership to the team in addition to owning projects themselves. As a key liaison between the product development teams and the factory operations & engineering teams, the Senior Manager, Advanced Engineering ensures that factory priorities/objectives align with the Clothes Care Business Hoshin and the AME Hoshin objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science Degree in a related Engineering Discipline
  • 5+ years of experience with specification, design, and installation of manufacturing equipment / automation and process improvement
  • Manufacturing project leadership experience: demonstrated ability to manage an engineering team, manage program risk to meet technical & commercial requirements

  • Master of Science Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering
  • Direct Management experience for highly skilled engineering teams
  • Hands on experience in specification, design, installation and start up of industry leading equipment, and automation.
  • Proficient in MS Office, MS Project (or equivalent) and CAD/CAE products
  • Prior experience in working in a GD&T Environment.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for supporting development of business’ cross platform strategies regarding the assigned function and the related systems, developing standards and ensuring that all company procured, or modified equipment is compliant with those standards and executed within the project or program deliverables (safety, cost, quality and delivery.)
  • Support team’s engineers across the business as required during tooling/equipment procurement process, design, build, qualification, installation, and commissioning.
  • Coordinate and manage control systems for capital equipment procurement projects: Including specification development utilizing GEA & industry standards, supplier selection, early supplier engagement, technical reviews, factory layout development, installation, and qualification of equipment.
  • Ensure all tooling and equipment is reliable and robust and designed to maximize Overall Equipment Effectiveness (OEE).
  • Provide technical leadership and expertise as an internal resource for industry leading manufacturing equipment and processing activities.
  • Participate in the sign-off and acceptance of initial process operations/technical plans, drawings, equipment design, and on-going process improvements.
  • Ensure all equipment executed in GEA factories comply with Industry (ANSI, ISO, NFPA, RIA) and Governmental Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) standards, as well as all relative GEA tooling and equipment standards.
  • Promote Human Organizational Performance (HOP) principles to ensure that all equipment / tooling / processes are implemented with the health and safety of the operators in mind.
  • Work with functional leaders to ensure equipment & processes support business initiatives of Bill of Process (B of P), Lean Manufacturing, Ergonomic Design and Total Productive Maintenance (TPM)
  • Manage all program manufacturing and operation risk for program’s budget and schedule.
  • Continually identify, track, and mitigate risk through the life of the program.
  • Provide feedback to program core team to ensure manufacturing risk impact is understood within the total program scope.
  • Ensure significant risks and risks that cannot be mitigated within program resources are elevated to the leadership team in a timely manner.
  • Manage and mentor AME team members.
  • Allocate overall control strategy requirements within the team ensuring team members execute GE Appliances specifications and guidelines.
  • Work with the product line AME Managers to ensure program projects and plant projects are not counterproductive, as well as identify potential opportunities to utilize project and plant resources together to drive additional benefits.
  • Work with factory operations and LEAN teams to understand Value Stream and how team projects impact this.
  • Promote the use of the 9-Step Process for tooling and equipment design; consult Critical Process leaders as applicable to ensure development of robust processes for part / product generation.
  • Work with cross-functional team to develop Manufacturing Control Plans (MCP) and Manufacturing Control Instructions (MCI).
  • As a senior professional, participate in growing the AME organization’s capability. This includes mentoring, guiding and helping more junior team members, as well as adding to the body of knowledge of the department (training, developing new manufacturing processes, supporting Hoshin objectives, etc.)
