Job Summary: The Senior Mammography Technologist is an experienced professional with strong collaboration and leadership skills. In this role, the incumbent will support a collaborative team of technologists by providing a day-to-day guidance and mentorship and supporting quality assurance with acquisition, processing, submission for interpretation, and archiving mammography and bone density studies as requested by the referring physician and consistent with the facility's guidelines, and will be responsible for the care of the patient while in the imaging area.

Requirements

• High school graduate or equivalency.
• A minimum of 5 years relevant experience, including exposure to a wide range of mammography and bone density studies.
• NYS License, ARRT and mammography certified.
• Current BLS required.
• Demonstrated leadership proficiency in a team environment, including communication, training/knowledge-sharing, and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated participation in continuous improvement or quality initiatives.
• Must have excellent communication skills, interpersonal skills, and a strong ability to deescalate stressful situations.
• Candidate must demonstrate strong aptitude for detail, flexibility, punctuality, and ability to work independently.
• Must demonstrate strong organizational and problem-solving skills.
• Must be able to make sound judgments and execute the appropriate actions based on the needs of patients and knowledge of facility policies and procedures.
• Basic proficiency in computer skills including, but not limited to, Electronic Health Systems, Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Word, email systems, etc.
• Will provide coverage as requested throughout practices (multiple sites and flexible schedule including weekends).

• Prior experience supporting training and onboarding activities is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Greet and interact with patients, visitors, vendors, and all faculty and staff.
• Perform mammography and bone density studies and general radiological procedures.
• Review imaging requests for appropriateness based on clinical information provided.
• Review all questionable orders with the radiologist and, at the radiologists discretion, the referring physician.
• Position patient and select appropriate options to ensure best-case imaging.
• Observe patient while in the mammography area for change in status and make appropriate intervention or contact primary care givers for instruction.
• Judge diagnostic quality of finished medical images prior to submission to radiologist for interpretation.
• Offer detailed explanation of diagnostic procedures to patients and answer questions as appropriate.
• Assist radiologist with stereotactic core biopsies, setting up patient, ensuring all documentation pre- and post-procedure is complete.
• Operate and maintain equipment on a daily basis, maintaining logbooks with equipment performance data: schedule PM, perform QA, maintain records required for and participate in inspections.
• Perform clerical responsibilities associated with acquisition, processing, and archiving of patient records.
• Contribute ideas for improving practice workflows to team members, providers, and management.
• Assist with onboarding and training of new or less experienced technologists.
• Share knowledge and offers guidance/mentorship to facilitate team collaboration and a supportive environment.
• May assist manager to ensure adequate coverage and address related issues as directed.
• Participate in debriefing and quality improvement practices to ensure quality patient care.
• Bring safety and quality events, concerns and needs to debriefs/safety huddles.
• Collaborate with team members on quality-related projects.
• Assist manager on Quality Control and Assurance measures, including testing and auditing as appropriate.
• Increase transparency, encourage event reporting, and advance the safety culture by participating in and facilitating safety huddles, patient safety activities, culture reinforcement, and shared learning.
• Compile daily mammography statistics and maintain annual statistics for technologists and MDs.
• Other duties as assigned.
