About The Position

The City of Tukwila is seeking a Streets Signal - Senior Maintenance and Operations Specialist in the Public Works Department. The Senior Maintenance and Operations Specialist performs highly specialized, journey level activities in area of assignment and serves as a lead on projects. Under the general supervision of the Streets Superintendent, this position will install, maintain, and modify the City of Tukwila's traffic signal system. The ideal candidate should be highly motivated, well rounded, and knowledgeable in electrical and controls principals. Ability to effectively work in a multicultural workplace with a diverse customer base.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED) and three years of specialized maintenance or operations experience in area of assignment; or an equivalent combination of education and experience which provides the knowledge, skills, and abilities sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job.
  • Valid Driver's License with applicable Commercial Driver License endorsements

  • First Aid and CPR certification
  • Terminology, methods, materials, practices, and techniques in area of assignment
  • Maintenance and repair methods and techniques in area of assignment
  • Occupational hazards present, and safety precautions applicable to area of assignment
  • Tools and equipment used in area of assignment
  • Confined Space safety regulations
  • Laws and regulations applicable to assigned area
  • Troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures related to systems maintained
  • Performing skilled and highly specialized maintenance and inspection activities related to area of assignment
  • Troubleshooting, diagnosing, and repairing equipment
  • Using electronic instruments and hand and power tools
  • Applying customer service techniques
  • Establishing and maintaining effective interpersonal relationships at all organizational levels and with the public
  • Communication, both oral and written, sufficient to exchange or convey information and to receive work direction

Responsibilities

  • Performs maintenance, safety inspections, and testing of facilities, equipment, and systems requiring specialized knowledge in order to determine normal operating parameters.
  • Follows specialized troubleshooting and diagnostic procedures to determine malfunction cause and repair needs of systems and equipment, to include determining whether to repair, replace, or upgrade components and systems.
  • Evaluates performance of assigned field, to include compiling information and analyzing the effectiveness of service delivery; develops and maintains a variety of reports, records, and notes; may assist with review of plans and specifications for construction projects and attends pre-construction meetings when applicable.
  • Operates, maintains, and repairs specialized equipment and instruments.
  • Responds to inquiries, complaints, and service requests for assigned field.
  • Directs and controls traffic, to include placing traffic cones and signs; flagging traffic; and closing lanes and streets.
  • Coordinates the availability of materials and equipment for service and maintenance requirements.
  • Maintains reasonable, predictable, and regular attendance during the standard work week.
  • Inventories supplies and makes minor purchases as needed.
  • Serves as a lead worker to skilled staff or on projects, to include planning, scheduling, and assigning work projects.
  • Performs duties as Acting Maintenance and Operations Foreman as required.
