About The Position

This role directly supervises employees in the Maintenance Department, including hiring and disciplinary functions. The Senior Maintenance Mechanic carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include training, planning, assigning/directing work, and ensuring work is completed in a safe and efficient manner. The position involves assessing ongoing maintenance projects, determining work priorities, and directing maintenance activities. The mechanic will ensure safe working conditions and work procedures are followed, communicate equipment and job order status, and update the Electronic Preventative Maintenance system. They will analyze Preventative Maintenance data to modify the program, analyze equipment manuals to create meaningful Preventative Maintenance schedules, and read electrical and hydraulic prints. The role requires troubleshooting and repairing mechanical equipment, filling out required paperwork and work orders, and possessing knowledge of various equipment such as hoists, processing machines, air compressors, sump pumps, and exhaust fans. Welding skills are also required, along with the ability to train others. The mechanic will order parts as needed, maintain a clean and orderly department, and collaborate with the Purchasing department and other department supervisors to improve operations. Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Certificate or Diploma from trade school in related field and five years experience in the maintenance and/or operation process of a manufacturing facility.
  • Engineering degree or equivalent of 5 to 7 years related maintenance experience.
  • Direct work experience maintaining industrial equipment, conveyors & processing and packaging machines & equipment, piping, hydraulic systems, and other miscellaneous equipment.
  • Ability to perform multiple tasks simultaneously in a fast paced environment.
  • Good supervisory skills.
  • Self-directed.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of welding procedures & fabrication techniques is a plus.
  • Capable of working and acting as a troubleshooting resource, as well as giving guidance and developmental projects to employees.
  • Assist in creating work instructions and procedures.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and develops the skills of the maintenance crew.
  • Assesses ongoing maintenance projects and job orders and determines work priorities.
  • Directs maintenance activities and delegates work to crew.
  • Ensures safe working conditions and safe work procedures are understood and followed by crew.
  • Communicates equipment and job order status to appropriate people and departments.
  • Updates Electronic Preventative Maintenance system.
  • Analyzes Preventative Maintenance data and modifies program based on this data.
  • Analyzes equipment manuals and translates that data into meaningful Preventative Maintenance schedules.
  • Reads electrical and hydraulic prints.
  • Troubleshoots and repairs mechanical equipment in a reasonable time.
  • Fills out all required paper work and work orders.
  • Possesses a good working knowledge of hoist, processing machines, air compressor, sump pumps, exhaust fans, vacuum system, and be able to repair them.
  • Welds and trains others as needed.
  • Orders parts as needed by the department, in a timely manner.
  • Keeps the Maintenance department clean and orderly at all times.
  • Works with the Purchasing department to order parts on time.
  • Works with the Supervisors of different departments to improve their operations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Ensures accuracy of all employee documentation (i.e. timecards, attendance, counseling, etc.).
  • Promotes subordinate development.
  • Participates in the CCJ safety program.
  • Participates in CCJ Quality Improvement Process.
  • Functions as a group leader in the areas of safety, health, quality, dependability and productivity.
