About The Position

CTG is seeking to fill a Senior Mainframe Systems Programmer (Adabas/Natural SME) position for our client. This is a remote role with a duration through the end of 2028. The position involves leading the installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Software AG Adabas and Natural products within an IBM z/OS mainframe environment. Key responsibilities include administering Adabas databases, configuring and maintaining Natural environments, managing Software AG product installations and upgrades, configuring and supporting Adabas Event Replicator, integrating Adabas and Natural with z/OS services, troubleshooting complex issues, monitoring system resources, and applying mainframe security practices. The role also requires providing technical leadership and subject matter expertise.

Requirements

  • Expert-level Adabas and Natural administration and systems programming in IBM z/OS environments.
  • Strong knowledge of z/OS, JCL, SMP/E, TSO/ISPF, SDSF, PARMLIB configuration, APF authorization, and link-list management.
  • Expertise in Adabas utilities, including ADARUN, ADAFRM, ADALOD, ADADBS, ADABCK, and ADAVAL, as applicable.
  • Advanced Natural configuration and administration, including NATPARM, Natural Security, FNAT/FUSER, SYSBPM, SYSMAIN, INPL, and SYSTRANS.
  • Experience with Adabas SVC installation, PLOG/CLOG management, cross-memory services, database storage structures, and recovery procedures.
  • Knowledge of Software AG Event Replicator, Entire Net-Work, Com-plete, Predict, Adabas Review, Entire System Server, and Natural ISPF.
  • Proficiency with IBM utilities such as IDCAMS, IEBCOPY, and AMASPZAP.
  • Strong troubleshooting, performance tuning, systems integration, and production support skills.
  • Demonstrated Level 4 / Subject Matter Expert (SME) expertise in both Adabas and Natural mainframe systems programming and administration.
  • Extensive experience supporting, maintaining, and optimizing Software AG products on IBM z/OS.
  • Proven ability to perform complex installations, product upgrades, maintenance, system configuration, and production troubleshooting.
  • Experience managing Adabas database operations, Natural environments, and mainframe performance and recovery.
  • Ability to work independently on complex technical issues and provide expert guidance on mainframe systems and Software AG technologies.
  • Excellent verbal and written English communication skills and the ability to interact professionally with a diverse group are required.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Event Replicator administration and enterprise messaging integrations, including IBM MQ, preferred.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field preferred, or equivalent relevant technical experience.
  • Relevant Software AG, Adabas, Natural, or IBM mainframe training and certifications are a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead installation, configuration, maintenance, and troubleshooting of Software AG Adabas and Natural products in an IBM z/OS mainframe environment.
  • Administer Adabas databases, including database configuration, storage allocation, backup and recovery, performance tuning, and system maintenance.
  • Configure and maintain Natural environments, including NATPARM, buffer pools, system files, security, and application deployment utilities.
  • Manage Software AG product installation, upgrades, patches, PTFs, and emergency fixes using SMP/E and mainframe utilities.
  • Configure and support Adabas Event Replicator, including replication definitions, subscriptions, transaction logging, data synchronization, and destination connectivity.
  • Integrate Adabas and Natural with z/OS services, Com-plete, Entire Net-Work, Predict, Adabas Review, Entire System Server, and Natural ISPF.
  • Troubleshoot complex system, database, replication, and performance issues across mainframe environments.
  • Monitor system resources, database logs, queues, buffer pools, and replication processes to maintain availability and performance.
  • Apply mainframe security practices, including APF authorization, Natural Security, and integration with RACF, ACF2, or Top Secret.
  • Provide technical leadership and subject matter expertise for system architecture, implementation, optimization, and operational support.
