About The Position

The Senior Machine Learning Engineer will work on Apple’s Online Retail Decision Automation team, researching and developing algorithms that enhance the Apple Online Store experience. The role covers product search, recommendation systems such as ranking and page generation, personalization, Generative AI, and optimization of Apple-wide systems and infrastructure. The engineer will build scalable, end-to-end machine learning solutions for retail customers and take algorithms from concept through production deployment. The role also involves collaborating with machine learning engineers, researchers, software engineers, data scientists and analysts, and product managers; improving machine learning infrastructure and tooling; and mentoring other machine learning engineers. Continuous learning and staying current with advances in machine learning and software engineering are expected.

Requirements

• 10+ years of related experience building high-throughput, scalable applications or machine learning models.
• Proficiency in one or more object-oriented programming languages, such as Python, Java, or C++.
• Experience building distributed systems.
• Strong machine learning background and proven software development skills.
• Experience building data-processing pipelines and large-scale machine learning platforms.
• Experience with big data technologies such as Spark, SQL, Snowflake, or Hadoop.
• Experience operationalizing distributed applications.
• Experience building full-stack applications for big data analysis, feature extraction, and annotations.
• Strong communication, problem-solving, and strategic-thinking skills.
• Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field such as Computer Science, Applied Mathematics, or Statistics, or equivalent professional experience.
• Ability to work in a fast-paced, hands-on development organization.

Responsibilities

• Research and develop algorithms for the Apple Online Store experience, including product search, recommendations, personalization, Generative AI, and system and infrastructure optimization.
• Build scalable, end-to-end machine learning solutions for retail customers.
• Collaborate with other machine learning engineers to develop and deploy scalable, production-ready machine learning solutions, taking algorithms from initial concept through deployment.
• Contribute to the ongoing improvement of machine learning infrastructure and tooling.
• Collaborate with cross-functional colleagues, including researchers, engineers, data scientists and analysts, and product managers.
• Mentor other machine learning engineers.
• Stay up to date with advances in machine learning and software engineering through continuous learning and development.
• Drive end-to-end solutions in collaboration with machine learning engineers and product managers.
