About The Position

Thompson Law is seeking a Senior Litigation Attorney to lead the litigation docket in their Houston, Texas office. This senior role is for an experienced trial lawyer who wants to focus on trying cases, shaping strategy, and building a practice without the overhead of running a firm. The attorney will own case strategy from filing through verdict, conduct first-chair trials, and lead a dedicated support team including paralegals, medical records specialists, legal assistants, and closers. The focus will be on strategy, depositions, mediation, and courtroom activities.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • 8+ years of litigation experience, with substantial personal injury experience (plaintiff or defense).
  • Proven ability to value cases, set settlement parameters, manage a robust docket, and direct support staff.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams in a fast-paced, high-stakes legal environment.
  • Persuasive communication skills in writing and verbally.
  • Comfortable with legal research databases, case management software, and modern litigation technology, including responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Nice To Haves

  • Some first-chair jury trial experience and a real appetite for the courtroom.
  • Experience with catastrophic injury, wrongful death, commercial trucking, or premises cases.
  • A record of verdicts and settlements the candidate is proud to discuss.
  • Spanish speaking ability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead litigation docket strategy on liability, coverage, damages, and valuation from filing through final resolution.
  • Conduct first-chair jury trials, argue dispositive motions, handle hearings, and lead mediations.
  • Draft and direct pleadings, motions, and written discovery; prepare, take, and defend depositions of parties, experts, and treating physicians.
  • Direct settlement strategy, including setting minimum settlement parameters and approving demand packages.
  • Supervise and develop support teams and mentor junior attorneys.
  • Serve as a trusted client advocate, advising on strategy, progress, and settlement/trial decisions.
  • Partner with firm leadership to refine litigation strategy, share trial insights, and help grow the Texas footprint.
