About The Position

Thompson Law is seeking a Senior Litigation Attorney to lead the litigation docket in their San Antonio, Texas office. This senior role is for an experienced trial lawyer who wants to try cases, shape strategy, and build a practice without the overhead of running a firm. The attorney will own case strategy from filing through verdict, conduct first-chair trials, and lead a dedicated support team including paralegals, medical records specialists, legal assistants, and closers. The focus will be on strategy, depositions, mediation, and courtroom advocacy.

Requirements

  • Licensed to practice law in Texas and in good standing with the State Bar of Texas.
  • 8+ years of litigation experience, with substantial personal injury experience (plaintiff or defense).
  • Proven ability to value cases, set settlement parameters, manage a robust docket, and direct support staff.
  • Demonstrated success leading teams in a fast-paced, high-stakes legal environment.
  • Persuasive in writing and speaking.
  • Comfortable with legal research databases, case management software, and modern litigation technology, including responsible use of artificial intelligence.

Nice To Haves

  • First-chair jury trial experience and a strong desire for courtroom work.
  • Experience with catastrophic injury, wrongful death, commercial trucking, or premises cases.
  • A record of significant verdicts and settlements.
  • Spanish speaking ability.

Responsibilities

  • Lead litigation docket strategy on liability, coverage, damages, and valuation from filing through final resolution.
  • Conduct first-chair jury trials, argue dispositive motions, handle hearings, and lead mediations.
  • Draft and direct pleadings, motions, and written discovery; prepare, take, and defend depositions.
  • Set minimum settlement parameters, approve demand packages, and conduct negotiations and mediations.
  • Supervise and develop support staff and mentor junior attorneys.
  • Serve as a trusted client advocate, advising on strategy, progress, and settlement/trial decisions.
  • Partner with firm leadership to refine litigation strategy, share trial insights, and help grow the Texas footprint.
