About The Position

Career Developers Inc. is hiring a Senior Linux Engineer focused on storage for a high-performance computing (HPC) environment. The role is based in Manhattan, NY, and is hybrid, with four days per week in the office. Salary is open and commensurate with experience. The engineer will design, build, and maintain large-scale HPC storage and compute environments using bare-metal Linux technology. The role focuses on distributed and parallel storage systems, including GPFS or VASA, and on optimizing performance, scalability, and capacity. It also involves automation, hybrid on-premises and cloud storage, infrastructure as code, observability, and troubleshooting across hardware, operating systems, and distributed systems.

Requirements

  • At least 5 years of Linux infrastructure engineering experience focused on distributed storage systems.
  • Hands-on experience with VASA or similar parallel file systems, such as GPFS, Lustre, or Ceph.
  • Strong Python skills for automation and tool development.
  • Experience managing petabyte-scale storage systems.
  • Familiarity with containers, hypervisors, and public cloud infrastructure such as AWS or GCP.
  • Solid understanding of CI/CD, version control, and modern infrastructure practices.
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to work independently in fast-paced environments.

Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain large-scale HPC storage and compute environments using bare-metal Linux technology.
  • Optimize performance, scalability, and capacity across high-performance storage systems.
  • Automate deployment, configuration, and monitoring using Chef, Ansible, and Python.
  • Support hybrid storage architectures across on-premises and AWS or GCP environments.
  • Collaborate with global engineering and infrastructure teams to enforce standards and improve system reliability.
  • Troubleshoot performance and integration issues across hardware, operating systems, and distributed systems.
  • Implement observability solutions using Prometheus, Grafana, Datadog, and the ELK stack to monitor and tune storage performance.
  • Develop and maintain infrastructure as code for storage and compute environments.
