About The Position

Barnstorm VFX is seeking an experienced Senior Lighting Artist to join our growing CG team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating high-quality lighting and rendering solutions that seamlessly integrate CG elements into live-action plates while supporting the overall visual direction of each project. The ideal candidate combines strong artistic sensibilities with technical expertise and thrives in a collaborative production environment. You will work closely with CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, Compositors, and fellow CG artists to deliver photorealistic and visually compelling results across episodic and feature productions.

Requirements

5+ years of experience in lighting and rendering for VFX, episodic, or feature film productions.
Strong understanding of lighting principles, composition, color theory, and photorealistic rendering.
Advanced knowledge of Maya and modern rendering engines such as Arnold, Redshift, or equivalent.
Experience working with look development, shaders, materials, AOVs, and render optimization.
Strong understanding of CG integration workflows and compositing requirements.
Ability to interpret creative direction and execute work with minimal supervision.
Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
Experience working within a fast-paced production environment and managing multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

Familiarity with episodic and streaming production pipelines is an asset.

Responsibilities

Create and maintain high-quality lighting setups for CG assets, environments, and effects.
Produce photorealistic renders that integrate seamlessly with live-action photography.
Collaborate with CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, and Compositors to achieve the desired visual style and technical requirements.
Contribute to look development and shot finaling across a variety of projects.
Optimize scenes and renders while maintaining the highest quality standards.
Troubleshoot lighting, rendering, and integration issues throughout production.
Work closely with Environment, FX, Look Development, and Compositing teams to ensure consistency across departments.
Help establish and maintain efficient lighting workflows and best practices.
Participate in dailies and reviews, providing thoughtful feedback and creative solutions.
Support and mentor junior and intermediate artists when appropriate.
