About The Position

Barnstorm VFX is seeking an experienced Senior Lighting Artist to join our growing CG team. In this role, you will be responsible for creating high-quality lighting and rendering solutions that seamlessly integrate CG elements into live-action plates while supporting the overall visual direction of each project. The ideal candidate combines strong artistic sensibilities with technical expertise and thrives in a collaborative production environment. You will work closely with CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, Compositors, and fellow CG artists to deliver photorealistic and visually compelling results across episodic and feature productions.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience in lighting and rendering for VFX, episodic, or feature film productions.
  • Strong understanding of lighting principles, composition, color theory, and photorealistic rendering.
  • Advanced knowledge of Maya and modern rendering engines such as Arnold, Redshift, or equivalent.
  • Experience working with look development, shaders, materials, AOVs, and render optimization.
  • Strong understanding of CG integration workflows and compositing requirements.
  • Ability to interpret creative direction and execute work with minimal supervision.
  • Excellent problem-solving, communication, and organizational skills.
  • Experience working within a fast-paced production environment and managing multiple priorities.

Nice To Haves

  • Familiarity with episodic and streaming production pipelines is an asset.

Responsibilities

  • Create and maintain high-quality lighting setups for CG assets, environments, and effects.
  • Produce photorealistic renders that integrate seamlessly with live-action photography.
  • Collaborate with CG Supervisors, VFX Supervisors, and Compositors to achieve the desired visual style and technical requirements.
  • Contribute to look development and shot finaling across a variety of projects.
  • Optimize scenes and renders while maintaining the highest quality standards.
  • Troubleshoot lighting, rendering, and integration issues throughout production.
  • Work closely with Environment, FX, Look Development, and Compositing teams to ensure consistency across departments.
  • Help establish and maintain efficient lighting workflows and best practices.
  • Participate in dailies and reviews, providing thoughtful feedback and creative solutions.
  • Support and mentor junior and intermediate artists when appropriate.
