About The Position

Zurich is seeking a Sr. Liability Trial Attorney to join its in-house Staff Legal team. This attorney will represent Zurich's commercial insureds by preparing and trying high complexity, high exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases. The role operates under a hybrid work model, offering flexibility for individual work while encouraging in-person collaboration. Occasional in-office attendance is expected. The position handles cases in central Florida, Jacksonville, and the Florida panhandle, with the candidate reporting out of the Maitland, Florida office or working remotely from the Tampa, Florida area.

Requirements

Juris Doctor degree.
7 or more years of experience in the Litigation area.
Member of the Bar in good standing in the jurisdiction(s) in which practice is located.
Demonstrated case analysis ability.
Proven trial and negotiation skills.
Ability to work independently and without substantial supervision.
Strong computer skills.
Experience with Microsoft Office.
Experience with Adobe.
Experience working with Lexis or Westlaw.
Knowledge of the insurance industry, claims, and the insurance defense litigation legal environment.

Experience handling insurance industry claims and general commercial litigation, including wrongful death, commercial motor vehicle torts, products and premises liability, and personal injury, from inception through trial.

Responsibilities

Representing commercial insureds in high complexity, high exposure General Liability and Commercial Auto personal injury cases.
Performing all aspects of insurance defense, including initial investigation, legal analysis, and advice.
Preparing and filing legal pleadings and documents.
Conducting legal research.
Preparing for and performing pre-trial discovery.
Preparing for and aggressively handling hearings and trials.
Conducting post-trial activities where appropriate.
Handling remote team-based work using video conferencing, task assignments, and other computer-based systems.
Budgeting costs and calculating exposure for clients.
Reviewing billables and diaries with substantive and procedural legal knowledge.
Understanding the staff counsel function and its role in the overall business.
