About The Position

The Senior Legislative Liaison assists the Chief of Legislative Affairs in developing, coordinating, and advancing the Office of the Attorney General’s legislative priorities. The position provides legislative analysis and policy guidance and serves as a key liaison with members of the General Assembly, legislative staff, state agencies, interest groups, and other stakeholders.

Requirements

Bachelor of arts degree
Minimum of 4 years of progressively responsible professional experience working in legislative affairs or public policy
Experience developing, implementing, and evaluating legislative strategies to support the passage of bills
Experience reviewing, analyzing, and drafting legislative language
Excellent communication skills
Ability to exercise discretion and good judgement
Demonstrate problem-solving skills
Ability to manage multiple complex matters in a fast-paced environment
Attendance and the ability to maintain strong working relationships with other employees, legislators, and the general public are essential functions of this position

Nice To Haves

Master’s or law degree is preferred

Responsibilities

Monitoring and analyzing legislation
Recommending OAG positions and legislative strategies
Coordinating the development and advancement of OAG legislative initiatives
Drafting and negotiating legislative language
Representing the OAG at legislative hearings and meetings
Preparing briefings, testimony, talking points, bill analyses, and legislative reports
Communicating and advocating for OAG legislative priorities
Monitoring priority legislation
Advising leadership on legislative developments
Assisting with legislative and constituent inquiries
Preparing summaries of enacted legislations
Coordinating legislative affairs staff and providing guidance and mentorship on legislative matters
