About The Position

Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario, dedicated to connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. It operates GO Transit, UP Express, and the PRESTO fare payment system, and is actively involved in building new rapid transit infrastructure. This role is an in-office position located at 97, Front Street Office, emphasizing in-person collaboration for co-creation, relationship-building, and hands-on partnership with leaders across the organization. Requirements

  • Member in good standing of the Law Society of Ontario.
  • Completion of a degree in law (JD or LLB).
  • At least five (5) years’ experience in Commercial Law.
  • Demonstrated commitment to inclusion, teamwork and collaboration, continuous improvement, and learning and development.
  • Ability to efficiently identify issues and implement solutions, provide sound legal advice, provide legal opinions, and suggest business-oriented solutions to complex issues.
  • Strong drafting, negotiation, dispute resolution skills and ability to provide strategic legal advice on a variety of matters.
  • Excellent interpersonal and oral/written/presentation skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in any of the following would be an asset: Engineering, Transit or Transportation Operations, Infrastructure Law Construction Law, Contract Management, and Procurement Law.

Responsibilities

  • Work independently and with project teams on high value, interesting and rewarding files that are critical to the delivery and expansion of GO Transit and Rapid Transit operations.
  • Deliver and manage key commercial and operating contracts with vendors, transit agencies, municipalities, and railways.
  • Provide high-value legal and strategic advice to business teams to deliver value to our end customers.
  • Support effective performance and claims management, including potential dispute resolution.
  • Provide advice/opinions on the interpretation and application of legislation and regulations.
  • Lead and contribute to continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Maintain an awareness of current provincial and federal legislation and regulations that may impact Metrolinx; recommends amendments to existing policies and procedures arising from relevant legislative or regulatory changes; provides advice/opinions on the interpretation of legislation.
  • Direct and manage external legal counsel.
