About The Position

ASSA ABLOY is seeking a commercially minded Senior Legal Counsel to join its Global Solutions division in Plano, Texas. This role involves acting as a trusted legal advisor for a dynamic, international organization, supporting a broad range of commercial and strategic matters. The position is part of the divisional legal team, working closely with senior stakeholders and primarily supporting the American market while collaborating with a global legal network. The role offers a hands-on scope, encompassing day-to-day legal support, strategic initiatives, M&A, compliance programs, and risk management. It provides an opportunity to work at the intersection of law and business, offering pragmatic, solution-oriented advice to enable business growth and protect company interests.

Requirements

  • Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an ABA-accredited law school (required)
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution (required)
  • Active license to practice law in the State of Texas (required)
  • Approximately 8+ years of relevant experience, combining both private practice (commercial law firm) and in-house legal roles within a global organization
  • Strong expertise in commercial law, including extensive experience in drafting and negotiating complex contracts
  • Solid understanding of compliance frameworks and key regulatory areas such as data privacy and anti-corruption
  • Experience with dispute resolution and managing external counsel

Nice To Haves

  • LL.M. in International Law, Corporate Law, or related field (preferred)
  • IAPP certification (CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM) or equivalent privacy credentials (preferred)
  • Exposure to M&A processes, including due diligence and transaction execution, is highly valued

Responsibilities

  • Provide hands-on, day-to-day legal support to business units and functions across a wide range of commercial and operational matters
  • Draft, review, negotiate, and advise on a broad spectrum of agreements, including sales, distribution, service, licensing, procurement, and non-disclosure agreements
  • Act as a key advisor on regulatory and compliance topics, including data privacy, competition law, anti-corruption, export control, and intellectual property matters
  • Manage and coordinate litigation and pre-litigation matters, working closely with external counsel and internal stakeholders to define and execute effective legal strategies
  • Support the full lifecycle of M&A activities, including legal due diligence, structuring, drafting and negotiating transaction documentation, and post-closing integration
  • Drive and support the development and implementation of legal policies, procedures, and training programs to strengthen compliance and mitigate legal risk across the organization
  • Monitor legal and regulatory developments relevant to the business and proactively advise stakeholders on implications and required actions
  • Build strong relationships across the organization and serve as a trusted partner to commercial, operational, and functional teams
