About The Position

The Ohio Department of Public Safety – Ohio State Highway Patrol is seeking a Senior LEADS Database Administrator. This role involves designing, configuring, and maintaining Oracle database systems, particularly Oracle Real Applications Cluster (RAC) and Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM). The administrator will monitor database performance, troubleshoot errors, and coordinate with infrastructure teams for system maintenance. The position also requires performance tuning on Linux, Windows, and AIX systems and collaboration with IT Architecture staff and management to design solutions that meet LEADS requirements.

Requirements

Must obtain & maintain LEADS certification as mandated by Ohio Administrative Code 4501:2-10-03 (G)(3).
Option 1: 60 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 months work experience in Oracle.
Option 2: Completion of associate core program in computer science or information systems; AND 42 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 months work experience in Oracle.
Option 3: Completion of undergraduate core program in computer science or information systems; AND 36 months combined work experience in any combination of the following: designing and implementing high availability solutions, performing solutions design, providing technical Tier III database support, developing project plans with project manager or recommending approach through defining tasks and/or leading meetings relating to design, implementation, operation and ongoing maintenance of databases systems including 12 months work experience in Oracle.
Equivalent of minimum class qualifications for employment noted above.

Responsibilities

Designs & plans cluster node hardware selection & makes recommendations on hardware requirements based on current &/or projected usage.
Configures & prepares cluster nodes/servers for Oracle database Real Applications Cluster (RAC) software installation.
Monitors cluster-aware storage (Oracle Automatic Storage Management (ASM) usage to prevent overallocation).
Builds, configures, uses, & maintains Oracle enterprise management (OEM) interface.
Works with IT Architecture staff, CIO &/or IT Managers to design solutions that meet LEADS requirements.
Assists with analysis of the solution designs business case.
Monitors database errors, warnings, load balancing, memory usage & health.
Coordinates with infrastructure team on database & system maintenance.
Conducts performance tuning system configuration on Linux, Windows & AIX.
