About The Position

The Research Foundation of The City University of New York (RFCUNY) is seeking a Senior Lead, Youth Mental Health Advocate to play a key leadership role in the design and implementation of the Youth Mental Health Advocate (YMHA) program. This role is part of the Academy for Community Behavioral Health, which equips NYC non-profit care providers to address behavioral health needs. The YMHA program specifically targets young people aged 18-24 who are not enrolled in college, providing them with training, work experience, and support to enter helping professions. The Senior Lead will guide curriculum development and delivery, manage instructors, and provide support to host organizations. The role requires significant subject matter expertise in youth mental health, instructional design, community-based capacity building, and care coordination for young adults.

Requirements

  • Advanced degree in a related field.
  • Licensed to independently provide clinical mental health care in New York State (e.g., Psychologist, Psychiatrist, Psychoanalyst, LCSW, LMHC, ATR-BC/LCAT).
  • Advanced knowledge of youth mental health, demonstrated through advanced and continued learning, and contributions to the field.
  • Experience delivering evidence-supported mental health care to youth ages 10-24.
  • Experience managing the delivery of care in community settings.
  • A record of successfully creating or leading learning and capacity-building program(s) in youth mental health.
  • Advanced knowledge of instructional design and curriculum development.
  • Experience leading a collaborative curriculum development cycle (planning, development, testing, implementation, evaluation, and improvement).
  • Experience defining and measuring learning progress and outcomes.
  • At least 8 years’ experience teaching others to develop and apply relevant intrapersonal and interpersonal skills.
  • Experience providing training, coaching, and implementation support, in-person and online.
  • Experience teaching young adults (18-24) and adults.
  • Experience training and coaching other trainers/facilitators.
  • A shared commitment to Academy goals and values.
  • Candidates must be authorized to work in the United States on a continuous basis. Sponsorship is not available.

  • Experience providing technical assistance to community-based organizations.
  • Experience in care coordination for young adults ages 18-24, including services to address material needs, education or career goals, and physical or mental health care.
  • Experience with workforce development, credit for prior learning, and/or higher education.

Responsibilities

  • Lead YMHA curriculum improvements, including updating goals, content, teaching methods, and assessment tools.
  • Manage a collaborative process for curriculum development, incorporating feedback and expertise from various stakeholders.
  • Ensure curriculum meets Academy values and standards, including competency-based learning and participatory design.
  • Prepare materials for CUNY SPS review for credit for prior learning.
  • Oversee the collection and maintenance of key data related to attendance and learning assessment.
  • Lead the development of a CBO curriculum to equip host organizations to effectively support YMHAs.
  • Manage curriculum development timelines and workflows, making real-time updates as needed.
  • Contribute to the development and implementation of a YMHA evaluation framework.
  • Produce final YMHA and CBO curricula.
  • Serve as Lead Instructor for the YMHA and CBO curricula, facilitating in-person and virtual training sessions.
  • Coordinate the contributions of other Instructors and lead the YMHA instructor team.
  • Monitor the quality of instruction and facilitate ongoing quality improvement activities.
  • Develop a structure for ongoing CBO engagement and support, including selection, preparation, training, and monitoring.
  • Facilitate multidirectional learning and capacity building across CBOs, maintaining open communication and responding to their needs.
  • Guide CBOs in implementing YMHA according to Academy standards and best practices.
  • Develop and lead agendas for CBO sessions, manage site visits, and oversee data collection.
  • Identify action items and develop workplans to address program challenges and opportunities.
  • Coordinate technical assistance and follow-up with CBOs.
  • Designate a program lead for each CBO and act as the program lead for a subset of CBOs.
  • Oversee the delivery of specialized supports for YMHAs, including assessment, support, referral, and psychoeducation.
  • Develop the Academy’s approach to care coordination, including protocols and tools.
  • Coordinate with the Director to assign responsibilities for care coordination activities.
  • Oversee data collection, monitoring, and implementation of care coordination activities.
  • Facilitate care coordination meetings and troubleshoot challenges.
  • Ensure accurate and up-to-date records of key data related to care coordination.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
