About The Position

The Central Commercial Management – Quality Assurance team provides business, technical and system support to all value chains within the Commercial Organization and consistently engages and supports quality-related processes, programs and initiatives managed by other organizations in the enterprise. The team is closely integrated into MPC’s business and interacts daily with internal and external stakeholders to support the tactical and strategic needs of the company, ensure industry and regulatory fuel standards are maintained and lead process improvement initiatives that reduce waste and generate value. This role serves as a Quality subject matter expert (SME) for the Commercial organization, providing support for assigned commodities, which may include fuels, renewable fuels, transmix, NGLs, and petrochemicals. The successful candidate will improve and establish QA protocols and lead response efforts when quality issues arise. This individual will serve as the QA liaison with 3rd parties (producers, suppliers, operators, customers, etc.), protecting MPC and MPC customer interests and represents the product owner in MPC’s quality committees, working with Corporate PQ, Refining, L&S, NG&NGLs, Law and others to ensure business-minded and risk-calibrated decision-making processes are applied in QA initiatives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree, engineering, science, or other relevant degree
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience
  • Excellent working knowledge of midstream or downstream operations
  • In-depth conceptual and practical knowledge of organization’s product quality aspects
  • Ability to lead root cause analyses and investigations

Responsibilities

  • Assumes leadership role in anticipating and identifying product quality issues. Provides technical expertise to develop and implement innovative solutions that ensure company conformance with applicable industry, regulatory and stakeholder requirements and expectations.
  • Develops quality initiatives at a local and global level. Implements strategies, guidelines, and procedures and monitors compliance with quality practices and policies across the Company. Directs related reports and recommendations to appropriate personnel.
  • Leads or participates in product quality emergency responses to protect customers and equipment, recover off-specification product, and restore product sales.
  • Leads or participates in investigations of significant quality incidents with personnel across the enterprise to determine cause and contributory circumstances. Develops innovative solutions and process improvements to prevent recurrences.
  • Proactively builds understanding of federal and state fuel regulations and identifies optimization opportunities to enhance commercial value.
  • Serves as a Commercial organization SME on product quality, offering insights and education.
