About The Position

This Opportunity WSP is currently initiating a search for a full-time Senior Lead Mineral Processing Engineer for our Lakewood, CO office location. Be involved in projects with our Mining Team and be a part of a growing organization that meets our client’s objectives and solves their challenges. This role will require the engineer to lead development of process engineering deliverable documents for mineral processing plants that recovery various commodities including copper, gold, silver, diamonds, potash, REE, critical and other industrial minerals. You will generate accurate and concise documentation regarding assigned aspects of the project. Ensure that responsibilities are delivered and adhered to with a level of quality that meets or exceeds acceptable industry standards for design, safety, and functionality.

Requirements

  • Degree in Chemical, Metallurgical, or Mineral Process Engineering
  • 10+ years of process engineering experience on mining, mineral processing, or metallurgical capital projects, with demonstrated depth in gold heap leaching, copper flotation, base metal hydrometallurgical plants and or solvent extraction process design.
  • Familiarity with HAZOP and process safety review methodologies; experience as a participant or study node leader.
  • Experience working within an EPCM project, with responsibility for reviewing and coordinating engineering deliverables produced by sub-consultants and turnkey package manufactures.
  • Demonstrated work in extractive metallurgical process engineering and have a strong desire to advance skills related to WSP’s work and projects.
  • Excellent research skills with analytical mindset.
  • Highly proficient with making technical computations and calculations involving the application of engineering principles, understanding plans and specifications and making factual comparisons to the appropriate regulations.
  • Highly effective interpersonal and communication skills when interacting with others, expressing intricate ideas effectively and professionally to an engineering and non-engineering audience.
  • Strong self-leadership and interpersonal communication skills with the ability to effectively, persuasively, and tactfully interact with clients, regulators, project managers, and employees at all levels of the organization.
  • Works independently to provide guidance and leadership to mid-level to senior level team or project members, with strict adherence to QA/QC.
  • High proficiency with technical writing, office automation, software, spreadsheets, technology, and tools.
  • Experienced with providing critical review for documents and preparing technical deliverables and plans with a high degree of complexity.
  • Well-developed critical thinking and problem-solving skills required to apply technical knowledge to reach conclusions from testing results, data collation, statistical analysis and arriving at the most effective, economical, and logical solution.
  • Demonstrated effectiveness at coordinating and assertively directing subcontractors and others to consistently complete tasks safely and efficiently.
  • Proven track record of upholding workplace safety and ability to abide by WSP’s health, safety and drug/alcohol and harassment policies.
  • Must be flexible to a variety of schedules to meet business needs and able to prioritize responsibilities and quickly adapt to change in a pressure work environment.
  • Ability to work schedules conductive to project-specific requirements that may extend beyond the typical workweek.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (P.E.), or FE Certification, and the ability to obtain PE within 2 years hire.
  • A member of and/or actively participate in local professional practice organizations
  • Hands-on experience developing and reviewing PFDs, P&IDs, heat and mass balances, equipment specifications, and process datasheets in a detailed design environment.
  • Proficiency with process simulation and modeling tools relevant to rare earth or base metal processing (e.g., HSC Chemistry, Aspen Plus/HYSYS, JKSimMet, METSIM, or equivalent).
  • Exposure to a wide range of process operations that may include crushing, grinding, screening, hydro classification, air classification, gravity concentration, magnetic separation, dense media separation, sensor-based sorting, flotation, leaching, heap leaching, pressure oxidation, solvent extraction, electrowinning, thickening, clarification, filtration, drying, mixing, feeding, pumping, bulk solids handling and pneumatic conveying.

Responsibilities

  • Lead a variety of engineering tasks with the goal of developing technical, social, and ethical skills.
  • Assist with project research, and preliminary design calculations and analysis.
  • Support preparation of final design plans, special provisions, and cost estimates.
  • Assist in collecting and maintaining project documentation.
  • Lead larger-scale engineering projects ensuring contributors know what they are required to do and by when, preparing and overseeing relevant project budgets, monitoring external events, tracking hours and expenses, ensuring satisfactory performance, and supervising subcontractors, contract work, and employees.
  • Develop a client base for providing high level chemical engineering services including identifying additional business development opportunities.
  • Mentor staff to support their growth and professional development.
  • Collaborates with professionals from a variety of disciplines to provide future ready solutions for clients.
  • Complete training on assigned tasks.
  • Exercise responsible and ethical decision-making regarding company funds, resources and conduct, and adhere to WSP’s Code of Conduct and related policies and procedures.
  • Perform additional responsibilities as required by business needs.
