About The Position

Medal is seeking a Senior/Lead iOS Engineer to advance their mobile application. The role involves working with a small team of engineers and designers to enhance the iOS experience, focusing on areas like real-time editing, content discovery, and notifications. The engineer will contribute to mobile architecture, influence product strategy, and develop features used by millions of gamers. This position is ideal for someone passionate about creating polished mobile experiences, user interaction, and working at the intersection of social media and gaming.

Requirements

  • 5+ years of experience shipping iOS apps
  • Swift, UIKit, SwiftUI, and Foundation knowledge
  • Swift Concurrency and Reactive programming experience
  • Experience working on complex real-time apps, video/media-heavy workflows, or social applications
  • Obsession with quality of code and interfaces
  • Interest in product and taking ownership of broad product areas (likes to run experiments, talk to users, and use the product avidly)
  • Practiced at using analytics, testing, user feedback, bug, and crash reports to inform app development
  • Experience using REST APIs and working with backend teams to accomplish product goals
  • A love for gaming, however you define it!
  • Read and write well and can communicate and collaborate both synchronously and asynchronously

Nice To Haves

  • Can develop on both Android and iOS
  • History as a Medal user
  • Experience with other Apple technologies - Objective-C, iPadOS, macOS, etc.
  • Experience working with video on mobile (performance, encoding, AVFoundation etc.) a plus
  • Maintenance of CI systems – Xcode Cloud is a plus

Responsibilities

  • Own major parts of the iOS codebase and contribute to architecture decisions
  • Build features used by millions of gamers, from sharing workflows to profile pages and chat
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with design, backend, and product to ship fast without sacrificing quality
  • Advocate for user experience, performance, and accessibility
  • Help mentor junior engineers and uphold a high bar for code quality and engineering culture
  • Stay on top of iOS best practices and help us keep the tech stack modern and efficient
  • Work on-site at our NYC office 5 days a week
