About The Position

The Senior Lead Instructor will join SEO’s community of passionate educators to implement a rigorous college prep curriculum for motivated and driven high school students. The Senior Lead Instructor promotes depth of understanding and skill acquisition by serving as a coach and facilitator of learning. The Senior Lead Instructor observes, coaches, and sets the example for Lead Instructors on how to conduct observation, debriefs, and professional development and serves as the on-site Teaching and Learning representative.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in content related field.
  • Teaching certification, K-12 classroom teaching experience, and/or experience teaching at the college or university level.
  • Minimum of 1 year of previous experience in school leadership role (i.e. Assistant Principal, Dean, Grade Level Leader, Department Head, etc.).
  • Minimum of 5 years of successful teaching experience especially at the high school level.
  • Demonstrated success with staff and student growth and performance.
  • Demonstrated success with project management and/or school or non-profit-based administration.
  • Expertise and depth of knowledge in relevant academic content.
  • Meticulous attention to detail and deadline-driven work ethic.
  • Eagerness to engage in conversations analyzing the historical and continued causes of societal ills and challenges.
  • Comfortable with navigating technological learning systems.
  • The use of a reliable personal laptop. Seasonal instructors must have access to their own device that meets basic technology requirements to carry out all instructional and administrative duties.

Nice To Haves

  • Understanding and practice of student-centered pedagogy.
  • Knowledge and experience with Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
  • Certifications, PD course completions, and/or tertiary education in Instructional Technologies.

Responsibilities

  • Cultivate site culture that fosters a sense of collective teacher efficacy, collaboration, and reflection to improve practices for college-ready scholars.
  • Collaborate with the Senior Manager, Teaching & Learning to refine coaching tools and frameworks and align with Teaching & Learning instructional priorities.
  • In collaboration with the Senior Manager, Teaching & Learning to monitor instructor & scholar key performance indicators to ensure grade-wide coherence in instructional practices.
  • Lead professional development aligned with SEO’s Indicators of Effective Instruction.
  • Coach and develop instructors aligned with SEO’s Indicators of Effective Instruction, record observation notes, complete a feedback form for data collection, facilitate one-on-one debriefs based on instructor proficiency, analyze instructor & student data, and promote rigorous and mission-aligned learning in all classrooms.
  • Support instructors’ understanding and teaching of SEO curriculum. This may include, but is not limited to, co-teaching with an instructor reviewing upcoming lessons, providing tips for teaching content-specific skills, developing instructors’ ability to build independent learners, guide instructors through scholar data analysis, and providing additional resources for subject-specific pedagogy.
  • Partner with site team members – Assistant/Associate Director of Grade Level, Operations Site Coordinator – to problem-solve around site challenges and coordinate information/other logistical needs to ensure smooth program delivery during programming.
  • Attend weekly check-ins during programming weeks and send weekly instructor notes for important announcements.
  • Respond to day-of absences and coverage needs and coordinate absence management plans.
  • Announce important Teaching and Learning updates for the day in Zoom channels and in-person.
  • Attend all scheduled check-ins, training, and debriefs and respond to all emails promptly.
  • Document and report any concerns related to instructor responsibilities and/or performance to the Teaching and Learning team.
  • Implement restorative practices to classroom and community issues and uphold safety and compliance on site.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Teaching & Learning team.
