About The Position

Wells Fargo is seeking a Senior Lead Benefits Consultant to join their Health Benefits team within Total Rewards. This role is responsible for the management of several health plans, including daily management, compliance, benchmarking, and design of certain medical or other health and welfare plans. This role owns key vendor relationships and serves as a strategic advisor to leadership, helping to shape the benefits experience for a large, diverse population. The role involves overseeing vendor performance, contributing to benefit program strategy, engaging with professionals across the enterprise, measuring plan administration effectiveness, ensuring regulatory and compliance processes, representing the Benefits Department in projects, socializing initiatives, consulting on Benefits Administration and Service Delivery, providing member support for complex inquiries, implementing plan design changes, reviewing plan materials, and mentoring junior staff.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of Benefits experience, or equivalent demonstrated through work experience, training, military experience, or education.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience managing health plan vendors at a large fully insured employer and driving performance, accountability, and continuous improvement across vendor partners.
  • Familiarity with employee benefit communications and the review and distribution of relevant health insurance summary plan documents (SPDs) to diverse audiences.
  • Applied experience with presentations to various stakeholders, including senior leadership.
  • Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Experience with analytical skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Intermediate proficiency in PowerPoint and Excel.
  • Workday experience (or similar HRIS).
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently with minimal supervision in a structured environment.
  • Project management experience and/or skills including the ability to manage multiple projects concurrently, detailed planning, process management, and documentation.
  • Ability to deliver accurate results with speed, agility, and consistency.
  • Knowledge and understanding of federal, state, and jurisdictional benefit laws and requirements.
  • Experience in articulation of issues, risks, and proposed solutions to various levels of staff and management.
  • Ability to explain complex systems and processes to audiences that may not be experts in that field.
  • Outstanding problem-solving and decision-making skills.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee vendor performance on a daily basis, confirming plans are administered correctly, ensuring consistency across vendors, and verifying compliance with regulations.
  • Track vendor deliverables and lead independent audits.
  • Understand vendor roadmaps.
  • Contribute to benefit program strategy, including plan design and benchmarking to identify opportunities for enhanced, competitive programs.
  • Engage with professionals and managers across the enterprise in the benefits function and serve as an expert advisor to leadership.
  • Measure and monitor the effectiveness of plan administration and customer service, making necessary adjustments to ensure quality.
  • Ensure regulatory, audit, and compliance processes for the Benefits Team are efficient and effective, complying with national, regional, and enterprise standards.
  • Represent the Benefits Department and serve as a subject matter expert (SME) or project leader in projects affecting benefits delivery, cross-department projects, and acquisition teams.
  • Socialize and gain agreement from internal and external partners to drive benefits initiatives forward.
  • Consult with internal partners on Benefits Administration and Service Delivery to ensure alignment with designed benefits programs.
  • Provide member support by answering/resolving complex employee inquiries, escalations, and appeals; act as a subject matter expert for plan interpretation from the Employee Service Center and vendors.
  • Implement plan design changes or new programs/offerings, including managing vendors, senior management presentations, and change management efforts.
  • Review plan materials such as annual enrollment and summary plan descriptions for accuracy and employee readability.
  • Mentor, coach, and provide work direction for junior benefits staff.
