About The Position

As International Motors continues to grow in San Antonio, we are expanding our production operations with the introduction of a night production shift. The night shift is Monday through Thursday from 5:30 PM to 4:00 AM, with production planned to begin in early 2027. This is a salaried position supporting a manufacturing operation. While the primary schedule aligns with the designated production shift, employees are expected to provide operational support as needed to meet business objectives. This may require working outside normal production hours, including extended shifts, production startup activities, recovery efforts, and occasional weekend support based on operational requirements. Shift Differential: 10% differential upon transitioning to Night Shift work schedule. We are seeking experienced Senior Lead Controls Engineers - Night Shift to provide technical leadership and hands-on support for our night shift manufacturing operations. This position serves as the primary escalation point for complex automation and controls issues affecting production equipment, material handling systems, robotics, and plant-wide control systems. The ideal candidate is a highly skilled automation professional with extensive experience in Rockwell Automation platforms, Ignition SCADA, industrial networking, robotics, and troubleshooting high-volume manufacturing systems. This role requires strong technical leadership, rapid decision-making, and the ability to support multiple production areas in a fast-paced environment.

Requirements

Responsibilities

  • Lead troubleshooting efforts for automation-related production disruptions.
  • Provide rapid response and root cause analysis for controls, electrical, network, robotics, and system integration issues.
  • Support production, maintenance, quality, and operations teams in resolving equipment failures and process abnormalities.
  • Minimize downtime through effective diagnostic and corrective action practices.
  • Develop, maintain, and troubleshoot: Allen-Bradley ControlLogix and CompactLogix PLC systems, FactoryTalk software applications, Ignition SCADA and HMI applications, Industrial Ethernet networks, Variable Frequency Drives (PowerFlex, SEW and equivalent), Fanuc robotics systems, Vision systems and barcode tracking solutions, SQL-based manufacturing databases and reporting systems.
  • Support automated conveyor systems and material transport equipment.
  • Support AGV/AMR deployments and fleet management systems.
  • Maintain and improve overhead crane automation and monitoring systems.
  • Support manufacturing execution, production monitoring, and plant visualization systems.
  • Identify and implement controls improvements that increase safety, reliability, throughput, and maintainability.
  • Analyze downtime trends and develop permanent corrective actions.
  • Lead modernization and upgrade projects for aging automation systems.
  • Standardize controls architectures, coding practices, and SCADA/HMI development standards.
  • Serve as the senior technical resource for night shift maintenance and operations teams.
  • Mentor Controls Engineers, Electricians, and Automation Technicians.
  • Develop troubleshooting documentation, standards, and training materials.
  • Coordinate controls-related activities during launches, shutdowns, and major equipment modifications.
  • Support industrial cybersecurity initiatives and secure architecture practices.
  • Ensure compliance with company engineering standards and machine safety requirements.
  • Maintain system backups, disaster recovery procedures, and change management documentation.
