About The Position

A Senior Landscape Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining University grounds and landscape year round by performing regular duties such as mowing, fertilizing, and maintaining turf grass. Transplants, prunes, waters, and cares for ornamental plants, trees, and shrubs. Weeds, mulches, and performs litter control, debris disposal, and additional grounds and landscape maintenance duties as needed. Builds and maintains plant installations. Works in a variety of weather conditions. Assists with snow removal, brick, and road repairs. Essential Functions: Performs daily landscape maintenance, including turf care, plant care, litter removal, and general repairs to campus grounds. Conducts inspections and completes preventative maintenance on landscape equipment Performs seasonal landscape updates and specialized maintenance tasks. Responds to service and repair requests for University grounds and landscape. Completes required computer-based tasks. Assists with coordination and oversight of contracted grounds and landscape work while also providing day‑to‑day direction, training, and mentorship to less‑experienced technicians to support skill development and ensure work quality. Performs other duties as assigned, including special projects within Facilities Management.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must possess a valid U.S. driver's license and maintain an acceptable driving record per Creighton's Vehicle Safety policy.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of licensed driving experience.
  • At least 19 years of age at the time of hire.
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds throughout the workday.
  • Ability to bend, stretch, twist, and reach as required for tasks.
  • Ability to work outdoors in various harsh weather conditions.
  • Ability to maintain and perform general repairs on small engines, equipment, and vehicles.
  • Ability to follow directives and work independently.
  • Ability to identify plant, tree, and turf diseases.
  • Ability to climb ladders and work at heights of 20 feet or more.
  • Strong customer service focus and attention to detail.
  • Basic computer and typing skills.
  • Knowledge of grounds and landscape maintenance procedures and best practices, including plant and turf species identification and care.
  • Knowledge of grounds-related tools (e.g., shovel, rake, pruners, saw, t-post) and their proper use and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of landscape maintenance, hand, and power tools, including large power equipment.
  • Knowledge of hazards and safety precautions related to operating grounds equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • 5+ Years related experience preferred
  • Experience operating commercial zero-turn mowers and snow removal equipment
  • Commercial Pesticide Applicators certification or ability to attain within 12 months of hire
  • Ability to attain Commercial Pesticide Applicators certification within 12 months of hire.
  • Experience operating a truck with a trailer.
  • Knowledge of building walls, laying patios, rock beds, and related tools and equipment.
